  • Grand Prix/Cutlass Headlights

I've always read that the Grand Prix/Cutlass little quad sealed beam headlights sucks. They look real cool, but now that I drive a coupe GP I can tell how much they really do suck! I can't see crap at night.

What do people usually do about this? Just carefully crack open the headlight housing and replace the bulb with a silverstar or something? I'd like to go HID but I think cost puts that out of the picture.

    Thanks.

It's a normal halogen bulb in there. 4351 for the low beam...unsure of the high beam. It will be interesting to see what happens in my Olds. The sedan lights sucked big time. Now that coupe lights are in it, I hope it gets better...

Sealed? So you can't put bulbs inside them? If you can then modify some highs to fit in the low spots. The beam pattern will still be low towards the ground but more output.

If sealed don't know what you can do. No idea on HID that will replace sealed... Perhaps they are same as camaro ones? Maybe someone has replacement solutions for those you could look at?

Mine seem to light up ok. You sure your aimed? Is your bracket broken? One thing is certian the lights don't blow out too easily and last long. your lenses might be pitted pretty good if they wern't changed out.

The lenses are glass, and they use a standard replacement bulb. They are NOT sealed. These are easy to aim, so if they point a little low, aim 'em up a little bit. A 1/4" socket works for that.

Check your aiming first before you start replacing things. There's a LOT of cars on the roads with poorly aimed headlamps. Even ones fresh from a dealer.

On a flat surface, your low-beam pattern should drop 2" below the headlamp center height on a wall 25 feet away.

Are you sure their not sealed? When you look up replacement parts online, it wants me to buy the entire housing with the bulb inside of it. I can not remove my bulbs from their housing either, none of the 4.

Well they definately seal them up with some glop. But the bulb itself is essentially a 9006 and 9005. I'm sure if you bought new lights with nice new lenses they will light up for you much better. Dont forg to aim them. If your mounting is anything like mine it will be very easy to set

if they are sealed beams you can still buy silver stars. they make them in bulb type and sealed beam type.

I got a set ( high and low ) of these in my car now:

I havent driven the car in about a month so I really cant tell you much other than the light output in the garage was MUCH better and MUCH brighter.

Sealed beam conversions are the way to go man. I got them for my high's and lows.

The new housings themselves are much nicer lookin than the stockers.

Which ones of those options did you get? I might do this with my Cutty, while the front end off of it.

So wait, are you saying that one of those conversion kits will fit into my GP? Which one?

Is it a "perfect" fit or just close? I never realized we shared headlights with anyone else...

EDIT - Hey they have a real HID conversion kit on there... could I get empty housings from them then plug in some HID's? Would it not work right due to the housing not being made for a HID? They mentioned no wiring upgrades... kinda odd most conversion kits have harness upgrades...
