  • Wheels ...

I was looking at some different rims for awhile for my 92 Grand Prix .. I have the diamond spoke 16s and they are a pain in the @$$ to clean. I was looking to go 17s off a Bonneville. I believe they have same bolt pattern 5x115 I thinks the magic numbers.

    The rims in question are 17" x 7.5" ..
And I was wondering what size tire you would use/fit. You think 245/45s would work?

    Thanks

Also, anybody have Dust Shields to keep the brake dust off the rims? http://www.kleenwheels.com/ for more info. I believe they run around $190 for all four!

The wheels and tires should work...always good to find a wheel you can test fit though.

As for dust shields, IMO, they do more damage than good. Regardless of what the company says the brakes will not cool as well as just having an open wheel. This can cause excessive brake fade and future rotor problems.

If you are referring to the new bonneville wheels (the only ones I know of that get 17's are the current ones), how will you get past the offset problem. I had a set, and thye will not bolt up. The bolt pattern is the same, but it hits the brake caliper so bad that you can't even fully bolt them on. Even with wheel spacers, it was still going to hit.

Yeah what they said... offset problems.

        245/45-17's will fit no problem.

No. GM's FWD stuff is either 5x100 or 5x115, depending on which platform and year.

Really, that's weird to me. I've heard from lots of tire shops tell me other wise. Oh well.

That's because they want to sell you a 5x114.3 wheel that they have in stock, rather than have to search high and low for a 5x115 wheel to custom order.

It does occasionally cause minor problems tho, such as the wheel studs breaking off. :P
