  • Caddy 3.5l V6 In a 3rd Gen Cav!!

    Talk about a tight fit!

The J-Body Organization, j-body.org, is the worlds largest automotive enthusiast group exclusively geared towards the General Motors GM J-car platform including the Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire, Pontiac Sunbird, Pontiac J 2000, Oldsmobile Firenza, Buick SkyHawk and Cadillac Cimarron.

Pretty neat. But for the size/power I would of rather done a 3400/3500 built up or with F/I. But still it's unique and cool!

    Not a 60* but interesting!

Oh yeah, I believe it will be boosted too!! LOL

That's actually an Oldsmobile V6. The Intrigue and the Aurora were the only cars to ever get it.

Right, I thought about editing the topic after I posted, as I put caddy in the title since the shortstar/northstar was in my mind. It's based off the caddy stuff but only used in olds. So it's really an olds design but similar to the caddy stuff.

I wonder if the 3.5l TB would bolt up to a 3500 plenum and what diameter it is? Cable, bracket, iac, tps all look in good spots... looks to be 4 bolt... big...

EDIT: looks like 3 holes to bolt it up. No idea on the diameter though...

I thought that engine was a 60*. I know NOTHING about that engine, though.

geldartb: cool!! I thought it looked like 65mm from pictures!! Perfect for 3500 swap you just need an adapter or some creative modding to bolt it up!

How'd you end up with one? Same idea? A pic of the back side would be good. IIRC it even has vacuum lines you can tap off of it.

Heh, I still have a chunk left of my 1x7x5" aluminum from when I made my EGR adapter, but not enough for a TB of course. I have a ton of 3/4 MDF that could work if one were to put in nuts secured really well since you can't tap and screw into it very well. Well maybe if you used drywall screws to screw the TB to the MDF! hahaha

The Intrigues I've driven w/ that 3.5 felt pretty peppy, so that Cavalier should run pretty good.

I have an intrigue with a 3.5L twin cam, it is a nice engine and as soon as the wife lets me I am dropping it is my Euro.

OLDS vin LX5 babystar, shortstar, or northstar v6. it is desinged by Olds produced, inspired by caddy.

It is a premium engine and is hard to find, this engine raised the cost of an intrigue by 3k, parts are expensive and since only a hand full of intrigues and auroras got them numbers are low.

According to WIkI the bore centers are different and doesn't lead to an actual degree.

I have worked on the 3.5 a few times already and it does not appear to be a true 90 degree as the heads sit closer than a 90, I have had a few 3.3L's in my day and this engine is tight in the center similar to 60's.
