I liked it too, but unfortunantly, the contra I am talking about is a big-ass clarinet. I think it is the BIGGEST clarinet used. I think a good analagy would be comparing an ALTO sax to a BARITONE sax. That is the difference between a BASS clarinet, and a CONTRABASS clarinet.

pic of said instrument (not me playing it, but you get the idea about how big it is):

Thanks. I need to get busy restoring it. It is suprisingly light weight (a little over 5 feet long, and the blade is about 2.5 feet long.

                        It is also still SHARP.

I have scared the hell out of a would be robber with that thing.

I have a ceremonial sword that was made in Pakistan. The blade's not exactly straight any more, and it wiggles in the hilt, but it would cut a robber's arm off in a pinch. I too was a band gekk until junior year when I woke up. I played not well the trumpet. And I had a tendency to bend the rod on the third valve so it would get stuck wide open. With vernacular like that no wonder I got into cars.

BTW Ben, great explanation. I couldn't have put it vaguer myself. That made my day. Cheers, mate. But not till band practice.

I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

I made the mistake of using my scythe to scratch my back. BIG mistake. That is when I realized just how sharp the blade still is.

Junior year is when I dropped out of band, and started co-op (school half day, and work half day).
