  • Firefox 3.0 Beta released

Note: Most if not all of your add-ons will be disabled after install. To fix, you must install Nightly Tester Tools to force the add-ons to work. Note: Imagebot will not work even after NTT install.

Skins/themes: I'd recommend using the default skin/theme for the time being until such time those get updated for Fx 3

    Initial thoughts:

    Added Functionality:
Makes it easy to copy/paste a link into a post. There is a feature to drag/drop the icon next to the address bar to copy the URL into the post. (lazy FTW)

    Plug-in Manager:
Manage your plugins from the Add-on window...

Other than that so far, its a fairly seamless transition to 3.0b1

I'll give it a shot. I was not too crazy about 2.0, so I downgraded back to 1.5, but I still prefer firefox over IE.

3.0 is very similar to 2.0 appearance wise, just will have more security fixes (as well as a couple IE 7.0-like functions)

I am forced in to IE7 for some sites, but for the most part, I use Opera. I like FireFox soley for the DownthemAll! extension.

          "DownthemAll"?

I went ahead and kept 1.5 in my computer. 3 is okay. I don't like the fact that I could not get the yahoo bar to work (I use that thing more than any other feature).

The thing I hate the most is I have a tendency to have 30+ tabs open, but the 2.0 and higher versions cut off the tabs after 12.

            DownThemAll!

Since it is in Beta phase, Yahoo will not get the toolbar up and running probably until RC2+

For the third comment, both 2.0 and 3.0 have a drop-down list of all open tabs to the right of the 10 or so that are up in the tab bar. The arrow in the pic below to the right of the rightmost tab will allow you to scroll through. Also, placing your cursor in the tab bar and using the scroll wheel on your mouse will scroll through tabs.

As an alternative, can always load the foXpose add-on for 2.0...

you can modify the tab behavior by about:config and make it squish the tabs like the old version. I have v2 set where the red X is at the far right and not on each tab like the old versions.

I gave up Firefox last year and never looked back. IE7 just works.. no BS about it.

I didn't even see that. Let me see if I can get it configured the way I want it.

I know about the drop down arrow, but I like having it there on the top. Since most of the sites have different icons, I can get to what I am looking for faster. Having to hit the dropdown tab is just something I don't like to have to do.

I have IE7, but I only use it to update my computer. I don't like using it seeing that it saves EVERYTHING I ever click on, and takes forever to load up. I just hated using it because of how long it takes EVERYTHING to load up. INCLUDING the tabs.

hmm.. I can't get it to change the tabs. It only has the options to warn when closing multiple tabs, warn when opening multiple tabs will slow down firefox, always show tab bar, and when opening, switch to it immediatly.

change browser.tabs.tabMinWidth to a set value >100 to have more tabs in your bar,

as for the tab close button:
Go to about:config and customize browser.tabs.closeButtons. Set it to:

                        * 0, shows the the close button on active tab only
                        * 1, close buttons on all tabs, this is Firefox’s 2 default behavior
                        * 2, no close buttons at all
                        * 3, close button at the end of the tabstrip, like in Firefox 1.5 and previous.

                          What is about:config?

I don't have anything like that in firefox. Unless I am just not looking in the right place.

need to type that in the address bar of Firefox. It pulls up the configuration file, but if you do go to edit it, be careful

I opened it up, but it does not have browser.tabs.closeButtons or browser.tabs.tabMinWidth

Could they be listed under something else?
