  • Grand Prix Stereo Question

I changed out the factory reciever with a Pioneer along with new pioneer speakers all around. Anyways the car has the door speakers and they are normally run by a separate amplifier connected to the dash speakers. This amplifier is ment to work with the stock radio. Now that I have the Pioneer the speakers on the door have lost fidelity, turn it up too much and they distort. As of now I have it unplugged which means the door speakers are not operational. I was thinking about connecting the door speakers directly to the dash speakers, was wondering if that would put too much strain on the reciever? Would it even sound good? Should I just go an get a small amplifier to power the door speakers?

When I put the pioneer radio in my STE, I had to just completely disconnect my amp.

In the STE, the amp works the same way as the Cutlass Supreme (I have a GAIN SLIDER in my door instead of the MUTE button like the older Grand Prix).

I put in the speakers before I did the radio, and everything was pretty much fine. My speakers are all ROCKFORD FOSGATE COMPONENT speakers. Everything was fine with the stock GP CD player. Once I put in the Pioneer radio, I got a REALLY bad distortion. I did everything I could to fix it, and finally had to just disconnect it, and rewire the rear speakers.

The radio seemed fine with doing it that way, and it does not seem like it is overpowering it.

I am going to redo it, and put in an aftermarket amp, but for now, it is really good that way.

yes!according to the manufacturer unless the unit is 2ohm stable.
i figure that's the way you wanted to wired it right.if wired it pos.to pos. and neg. to neg. you should be fine ,but you wont get much power out put cause about all the power you get out of a head unit is about 12 watts(i know they say 40-45 watts).

i have done wiring of 2ohm in a head unit and work successfully ,but i would recomment an amp.
how many speakers you running on that car?
i just love to watch the wheels turn around and around

running 2 4x6 plates, 2 4x6s in the doors, and 2 6x9s on the parcel shelf. so the unit has to be 2 ohm stable in order to do this right? I's rather it not sound like crap. Because it sounds like crap when I plug in that amp.
