in the end i think you'll be happy with 'er steve its a very pretty little car. just too bad none of them came with 660's you'll miss the torque a bit but the damm thing just goes like nothing. and its quiet haha something to be desired on my car.

    thanks for the ride!

honestly, this thing has a pile of torque. from the stage 2 dyno chart, its over 200ft/lb from 3200-6400rpm, peaking 230 at 5300rpm.

ill take you for a ride one day when its not raining brad, when i can get into it without spinning the tires in 3rd gear

Awww it's "cute" . j/m man. Nice, but for reliability I don't know... I would have somehow kept the cav and purchased a small truck or something. I understand the no space problem, so you did what you wanted to do. Hope it turns out well for you in the end.

        and.... You'll be back...

the SS's are nice. I thought about picking up one as a DD a while back.

Good luck with the new ride! (Now, figure out a way to swap a V6 in it )

Are you sure its a literal 20 psi? I recall going back over the GM literature on one of the boosted Ecotec engines and it appeared that a 21 psi listing actually included atmospheric pressure, in other words they actually meant 21 psi minus 14.7 atmospheric = 6 psi above atmospheric pressure, basically expressing bar in psi units.

Anything is possible but 20 psi on 9.2:1 compression from the factory on pump gas I believe is highly unlikely especially with gas prices keeping the 87 octane pump handle warm to the touch, and even if that is the case 20 psi on an engine as efficient as the Ecotec would produce considerably more power than just 260 hp, think about it, the 3400 does over 300 hp on 10 psi and it doesn't have overhead cams or VVT. The Quad 4 was cranking out 180 hp naturally aspirated. The 260 hp is probably computer limited with electronic throttle control. An accelerator pedal to the floor will always have the same mental effect on a driver even if the throttle is only 3/4 open per PCM control.

I read the GM info on the 08 turbo motor and the specs state forged steel crank and rods, iconel exhaust valves and a stronger block bulkhead with deeper water jackets. Sounds like it will handle a good bit more than 300 hp. The automatic tranny is limited to 222 lb/ft while the manual gets the full 260 lb/ft shock.

specs in several places list 20psi. the ecotec you are thinking of is the saab turbo, the low boost is 6psi, 175hp and high boost made 205hp.

the reason gm is able to crank the boost to it with 9.2:1 compression is because of the direct injection. with direct injection they are able to controll detonation/pre ignition very easily. keep in mind that the base 2.2l ecotec is only 140hp, the turbo version is 120hp more than that. i takes a lot of boost to make 12 more hp with a smaller motor and less compression. the sc cobalt has programming for low grade fuel, basicly it opens the bypass valve up limiting the boost, im sure the turbo cobalt will have it aswell.

That's not very impressive over the old QUAD motor. The 06 SC motor ran 12 psi according to GM and 205 hp also. I ran the numbers in Turbo calc and hit the 260 mark right on the dot at 20 psi. They must be holding back for durability purposes over the long run.

well with 5 year 100 000 km (60000 mile) warrenty, they need to build it tough and hold it back. and its still 80hp more than the quad 4 ho, but dont look at it as throwing a turbo on a quad 4 hp and making that sort of power. the q4ho wouldnt take boost because of the high compression, a better comparision is a 2.4 twin cam with a turbo setup on it.

Take the wing off and it wouldn't look half bad. The wing to me screams high school.
