  • Making a webpage.. need advice or direction

does anybody know how to find nice free templates for building a web page? or for that matter... how in the name of christ can I make something half decent myself using frontpage? shot in the dark here... i know most of us are gearheads and not computer nerds

Personally, I went to www.download.com and did a search for a free program.

I downloaded a sprogram called SiteGenWiz and used it to do a simple setup for the pics I posted on my little slice of webspace given to me here.

To see how it looked after about 30 mintues of playing around:

I am going to do a better one later, but for now, it is good enough. Once I get back into more work on my cars, I will update it.

you know what... thats not bad... and there are a lot of ways for you too add to it and make it look real sharp.. the only drawback is the enormous amount of time it takes to design shit, which i hate doing... BUT, there are a lot of things you can buy cheap.

anyways, i like the lay out you have, it would work well also with car sales... but to be bussiness like, it would need tonnes of polishing and fanciness that make the customer "think" this is a credible site... you know how people are now days... it's all about eye candy

I just do it all hand coding in either php or html. Site generators put too much excess crap in the code for my tastes. There are enough tutorials out there on html nowadays that it is pretty easy to cut and paste something together.

        But that's just me...

If it's that easy, I want a page! How much space do I have?

don't know what is going on with my posting.

What I originally posted was that I did my current site in about 30 minutes. The program has features to do more things too it than that, but I just did a basic layout, then got distracted.

I am more interested in getting the cars running right now than showing off pics of them.

Using front page is easy. The key to getting everything laid out in the fashion you want is TABLES. Go through any page on any site and look at the source. There are more tables in there than you can imagine. But all with invisible borders. They are used for colors, graphic positioning, text layout spacing and so on.

If you like a certain site layout then save the page on your computer and open it up in front page and then edit it from there. The main editing interface will show you all the elements that make up the page.

Yeah, I should probably do something about the store here sometime. I don't like coding that much, and graphic design is not my thing.

Yes, basically any page. If running IE7 (IE6 is similar, but I can't remember it exactly), goto the PAGE dropdown and select the VIEW SOURCE option. It will display the HTML code for the page currently being viewed.

Or go File>Save and then open with Frontpage and you can edit in an interface like MS Word or edit raw HTML.

to view the source, you can do it in firefox like I am. Just press and hold CTRL then press U That will open up the source page.

I think I am going to start doing a good website.
