Judge Rules: No Concealed Weapon For Teacher
    November 9, 2007 - 1:01PM

The Medford School district can prohibit a teacher from carrying a concealed weapon on campus, a Jackson County Judge has just ruled.

Teacher Shirley Katz has a valid concealed weapons permit and claimed that inluded the right to carry a gun where she works, South Medford High School. When the school district said she could not, because it violates a district policy... she took the district to court.

Circuit Court Judge G. Philip Arnold issued his ruling today, concluding:

"The District policy applies to only employees and others working for the District. The policy is known to those persons in advance. They accept their jobs subject to, and knowing, the policy.

ORS 166.170 does not prohibit the District from enacting the challenged employment policy. The District has the right to enforce its policy."
