  • doing a little body work.

I have wanted to do this for a long time, but I am now getting around to it. I like the way that the 1992-1997 Cutlass Supreme coupe looks, and I wanted my car to look like that, but I did not care for the mini-quads. I wanted to put the body kit of the 1992-1997 car on my 1988, but I did not know how to get past the issues with the front bumper (I wanted to keep the 1988-1991 Cutlass Supreme lights and hoods, and mini-grills). I also wanted something that is definatly not stock, and can make people take notice.

.....it is not finished yet, but here is what I have done so far.....

    Give me your input.....

I have the hood off of the car because I am painting it as well (yes, I am painting the body kit myself with the help of Brian P - Rhedalert). So far, the front and rear bumpers were originally white, all of the side mouldings were maroon (except for the front small one on the passernger door. It was BLUE). The lip spoiler was originally teal, but it had been repainted white. Everything is coming out EXCELLENT even for a garage job. I don't have a paint booth. I am doing this in my garage with a VERY GOOD spray gun, and air compressor, and taking my time. There is some refinishing work that will have to be done, but for the most part, everything is coming out perfectly. On the passenger side, I still need to put on the front wheel well trim. I have not put on any of the drivers side pieces yet. I also need to put on the rear bumper, and the hood. All in all, I plan on having this finished by this weekend.

Also, the paint that I am using is professional quality, and the exact paint code of the original paint on the car. As you can see, it is a PERFECT match. I am doing the 2 stage, base coat, clear coat, so it looks professional.

I like the gold too. Besides, if I wanted to change the entire color of the car, then I would have to paint the inside of the door frames, the inside of the trunk, the inside of the hood..... Too much work. Besides, I wanted a unique color, and the shade of gold that I already had is about as unique as they come. The closest any other Cutlass Supreme ever came was the 1996 (or 1997) one in that light gold, sandy color. I like the richer color of my gold, so I decided to keep it. Besides, how many Gold Cutlass Supreme's have YOU ever seen?

as to how I got off the center part, I just cut it off. If you compare the front bumpers between the 1988-1991 Cutlass Supreme, and the 1992-1997 Cutlass Supreme, you will notice that they are at the exact same level, just the lip that comes up on the newer one goes up higher than on the older ones. Just measure it, and cut it. I need to trim it up a bit more. I got it REALLY close, but in some areas, it needs to be trimmed down a little. When it is all said and done, I am going to get some doore edge mouldings and put that over the ends to cover up the cut. That should smooth it out to where it is not that noticeable.

As for the badges, I need to remove them to get the door caps on right. I am considering putting them on in a differant location (on the side of the car BEHIND the door like in the 1989-1992 Toronado Trofeo). Not sure yet. I will decide when I actually do it.

I haven't seen any other gold cutlasses, evar!!! That also means I never cringe at the site of gold cutlasses unless you are around:P Painting all those other parts would KICK ASS! That is why im sticking with white for the GP as well, so I understand why you didnt change colors. I just have to give you shit about the gold, thats all

Have you thought about painting the grill gold also? Or would that be too much and lack definition? I also would "nix" the badges. I've never been a fan of badges that stick out.

I like the black grills. It makes for a better definition on the front, and makes the center part of the hood stand out better. I painted the original CHROME grills gold at one point, and it did not look as good as the black ones do.

As for the badges, I like them. They are the newer style Cutlass Supreme ones, and some SC badges from an Acheiva. I also got V-6 badges from a Grand Am. All in all, it makes for a nice statement. I went with the SC badges, because I did not want for my car to have the SL badges that all of the other cars have (or international badges). Besides, my car is neither an International, or an SL. I wanted a badge that was not put on ANY Cutlass Supremes'. I chose the SC for Sports Coupe (which, with the built up 3100 and headers, it is), and the fact that the style of the SC badges matched the other ones. It all goes together very nicely.
