Oil companies actually lowered production to keep gas prices high and increase demand for oil high thus increasing thier profits.
Current exchange rates Between CAN:USA
Canada is 28 cents more on the CANdollar to the USdollar, in other words 1 USD is 1.28 CAND.
So if you spend 70 CAND you are getting 28 cent less on the dollar for what you buy than the USD. Where as 1 CAND is 72 cent USD.
70 CAND= 50.40 USD
.70 cents CAN times 3.785 (US gal)=2.65 CAND times .72 (CAND to USD) =1.90 USD per gallon in Canada
.90 Cents CAN times 3.785=3.41 CAND times .72= 2.45
Premium goes between 1.859 & 1.999 here. I try not to complain much because I know what it costs in canada and such. But I remember like 6 years ago when it was .999 a gallon.
And for those of you complaining about smokes, quit smoking. Its your own damn fault your spending so much money on them. If you don't wanna quit, stop complaining about the prices.

I don't know what the minimum wage is in Canada or the cost of living, but all in all Canada's prices versus USA's prices for standard of living can't be that much different.
Income versus bare essentials.
Since minimum wage is 5.25 or about depending on state regulations (SD tried to raise state minimum) I would think Canada's minimum is 7.25 or around that.
I am not saying that on average people in US make minimum to start a job in fact most places start at 7.00-10.00, I won't even get out of bed for minimum or less than 7.00 an hour.
My guess on typical starting wages in Canada would have to be around 10 dollars an hour or so.
Even exchange rate for a Euro drastically different. 1 Euro= 1.59 Canada. I have friends I speak to from abroad and most say that starting wages over in Europe is about 8 Euro an hour I heard of a person making 20 Euro/hour for managing a resturant/petro station.
I am not complaining about prices here, but cost versus standards it all works out to about the same.

Yeeesh I would rather drive a W-body with that hefty gas bill even if I were loaded with cash I don't think I go a blow it on a dumified Hummer.
Not to throw the topic:
I almost hit one that ran a red light I wasn't stopping, either was the guy next to me. I would love to hit one of those or any crazy driver that leaves the rear-end in on-coming traffic or any crazy driver for that matter, I got close over 20 times this past week and it would be their fault, I for that matter got close once and it would have been my fault lucky I pulled left into turning lane, he was speeding though but it hard to prove that in court. You know people that rush the stop light when it yellow...That kind of thing pisssses me off if it's yellow let people exit the intersection when someone lead in turning left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and not run the yellow. I won a case about that 2 years ago where I needed to exit the intersection turning left on a yellow and the SUV broad sided me and pushed me over to the right lane cars going the opposite way he had to pay for everything 3 cars and his. In this state it is not illegal to lead into the intersection on green only one car is permitted on either side and I was just under one car length from intersection marker.
Witnesses said that the SUV guy ran the the red just after it changed from yellow right when he hit the intersection it turned red, and when it turned yellow I had the right of way. I was almost thru the turn then bamm smash smash errrtt. Smashed my passanger door and ran over the rear-end and hit 2 other cars, he came to rest just before hitting a building. He was fined with reckless driving with the use of a cell phone, admitted to speeding and not paying attention to signals, restitution to the others that were injured in the amount of 150,000 dollars 75k each I elected that I was in good health and needed no hospital. Came down to a 10/90> 10% my fault 90% his. I got fined for not wearing a seat belt, believe it or not got a warning for not evacuating the intersection fast enough.
just wait....all them f/s SUV driving fucks are gonna have a drastic cut in resale value if gas ever surpasses $3/gal... Think someone's going to spend $90 on a tank of gas while getting like 18/gal highway?
don't tell me 'bout gas prices, I'm still mad driving the truck (2000 silverado 6.0 V towing an enclosed trailer to Kansas City, KS and back was $194.00 (nearly 1/3 the price of my car) in gas the first two stops were $47 each, and the second two were $50 each, and we only got about 220 miles per fillup usually about 27 gallons. and after 17 hours in the truck, I got back home at 3:00 am with my 92 Z34 which I got for a HELL of a good deal. how's that for spending money on gas in less then 24 hours.
