  • What about the '01, '02 Subaru WRX...

I think that the WRX is one of the most practical cars out there (for my needs anyways). It looks great, it's awd...so it handles awesome, it is a 4 door so you can haul family around (or friends in my case), it gets good gas mileage (turbo flat 4 boxer engine), reasonably priced (about 17k used), and the aftermarket has exploded for this car. Lemme know what you think about this car...

    Tranny problems:

    Driveability concerns:

Just making you aware of some stuff I quickly found .. didnt even read it .. I think it requires Premium fuel only.
If you can afford it, go for it.

Mmmmm scooby. I'd get either the 300hp STi, or put the STi 6spd trans in a reg WRX. I hear it doesn't have the issues of the 5spd 227hp WRX.

        Oh Colin, nice color choice!!!

I still got like 3 or 4 more years until I can get a new car, but I'm trying to convince anyone I know who is buying a car to get the STI with a stage 2 turbo

            I just wanna drive it
I wish 10% of the people on the road knew how to drive

I think this thing got hit with the ugly stick, or at least just tapped a little. But it's a good thing that I don't give a flying fuck about styling when looking at a car. So long as it performs the way I want it to, I'll buy it, and to hell with what it looks like.

I swear, some people out there when it comes to styling and buying a car or not. . . . .

If I were in the market for a WRX, I'd absolutely buy one. I used to work with someone who had one, and woooo, very nice. This other co-worker of ours in his Acura 3.2 CL kept getting pissed cause our co-worker in the WRX kept owning him

Wouldn't want to rebuild one. Two piece block, gotta install the wrist pins through a hole in the side of the block(s). Ouch! Plus they have like 3 cats or something rediculas like that. But us 3.4 guys like stupid challenges, don't we!?

uhk, Ive driven in an EVO and a STI...STI all the way...

MY bud got a EVO. I was excited to ride in it...and the first thing I realized when I sat inside it...it was just like a regular lancer on the interior. Oh, it had two tone seats and dash...but the seats were uncomfortable, and the dash was the same economy dash the lancer has. I didnt want to touch anything cause it thought I might break it.
The ride was FAST...but uncomfortable. I couldnt drive in it for more than 10 miles before I got ancy in my seat and started wriggling trying to get comfortable.

As far as modding...the EVO's turbo is pretty much maxed out, and the engine displaces less than the un-maxed out STI.

the STI however...fast ride, mucho better handling (if you get the good package...I test drove a regular WRX and my prix could take turns faster) 100X more comfortable and the interior is worth the money you spend on the car...and for the price of a boost controller, you have a faster ride.
