Yeah I've seen that before. That dude lost that thumb and maybe more of his hand I'm sure. If you can see bone and no muscle/flesh, I don't think there's much chance of you using that digit again.
NOW is the time to spray. SPRAY SPRAY AND RESPRAY every 2 weeks or so. When it gets cool fall time weather they move in for warmth. They will continue to infiltrate your home until a good cold frost. Also I can't remember but I think this is their mating season, or at least I think August was. They are nocturnal and come out at night to find a mate, so turn on the light or use a flashlight when walking late at night and look on the floor. They will often be found in the middle of the floor looking for a mate... Oh yeah they are cannibalistic too.
Look under garage work benches (carefully) for egg sacks. Since I've been spraying, last winter I hardly found any egg sacks. I used to find hundreds.
I opened the garage door today to go clean off the timing cover with the hose and detergent and when I closed it there was a wolf spider curled up dying. The spray must work fast on him. I felt bad for it because those don't bother me because I know they aren't venomous. Recluses however will cross the spray and take a day or so to die. I've found them pretty far in the house and they move really slow so they must have hit the poison. But not affected instantly like that wolf spider.
Also they like paper, and clutter, so when going through old boxes or papers, be careful. They do move fast.
I put the one in the pictures in a plastic container, and blew some moisture in with my breath. Hopefully he won't shrivel up too much and I can put him in some casting resin. I did that with one I found dead from the spray once but used 2-ton epoxy. It had too many air bubbles and is a bit yellow though. The casting resin would be better. I'll pick some up once I have a working car. I've shown it to friends so they know what to look out for.
