I hate these things. I don't see any other spiders in my house but these. Spray is helping, but man when it gets cold they start coming in. This one was in front of the work bench. HUGE sucker! He is all shriveled up in these pictures because I sprayed him with brake cleaner and put a spray paint cap over him. He kept getting up and running and I kept soaking him. Spiders just don't die easily.

When he was alive his leg span was super big. But the way they hold their legs I knew it was one right away, and like I said, the only spiders I see are these nasty things.

Yep, same here. That is all we have crawling around our house. And that is usually about the normal size for the ones I see. Oddly, I haven't seen one around for a few weeks. But I have, in the past, had a few weeks were I killed probably 20 in a week. Not fun to have crawling around with 2 young kids in the house...

Don't get by one of those! I've seen some nasty stuff happen to flesh after a bite. The flesh actually rots, and has to be cut out.

I second that, but suspect you already know given you know its name and are taking notice of its presence. I would panic if I knew they were running around an area close enough to bite me. Often people are bitten when they get caught up in the sheets which the reference to them coming inside due to cooler temperatures would suggest they'll seek out warmth in the same manner a snake would.

One of my moms co-workers is on antibiotics right now because of a bite from one of those, if you have a pre existing illness like diabetes for example it can get really bad. I would seal up every crack I could find between indoors and out and maybe get a good size gecko or two or three to run free in the house.

Here in Florida they're free because so many people have turned their store bought pets loose. The lizards here in Tampa look like dinosaurs and are much different than what I was used to seeing as a kid so they're probably some kind of mix with something from abroad.

Most lizards are native to FL with the exception of Curley Tails and Iguanas. Curley tails came from Haiti on the boats, and Iguanas are loose pet. Now we have Pythons in the Everglades for the same reason. I keep several Geckos oin the house, and discourage the kids/visitors from killing them. The baby Geckos are great for ants, and try to keep a few around in the wet areas (just try to not step on them )

Yep, I know what they do that's why I hate em so much. Old house I grew up in had a crawl space and tons of them were in the house. My mom used to keep a chart by the stair case going upstairs on how many she killed one summer on the stairs. It was like 400 or something!!!

This place has been caulked everywhere that I could find a place. Even the baseboards, closets, electrical sockets, and the register vents have fiberglass window screen over them.

The main point of entry I'm afraid is the garage door that is from the 50's and has huge cracks all around. Spraying the ortho home defense has helped a ton the past year so going to continue to use it. You'd find them dying when you did find them.

Ugh! I'll play with poisonous snakes, snapping turtles, and alligators all day long (and I have :P), just don't try to make me handle spiders! I hate bloody spiders. I keep a big can of spider-spray nearby most of the time. It works far better than any generic bug spray.

Recluses are immune to a lot of poisons, and it has to rub on their stomach to even kill them.

those things look like minuture versions of the spiders i seen at the local dump.
when i was younger, me and my brother used to sneak into the dump, we had what we called the m80 lol <--- 80 master lock keys on a ring, would open ANY master lock, or lock with same key pattern... anyways we went in and started to check out the metal pile... it was huge becuase they didnt recylce it yet or sommin, and as i got up top i noticed kick ass huge spider webs.... so i was like oh fuck, and i took a clsoer look, cause it was night time and i seen these huge ass fricken spiders, litteraly bigger than my had open fingers spread out.... fuckin HUGE... we split lol and ever since then i didnt go back to the metal pile

Recluses are very nasty spiders. One of the few creatures on the planet to use a necrotoxin as a poison. I'm glad we don't get them up here although I do see a lot of shipments from florida. Plenty of Anoles and Geckos hitch a ride though.

Recluses don't really have traditional webs. They have more like cobwebs heh. They don't build a nice circular web.

Damn spiders freak me out!

I found 4-5 spiders in my house in the past 2 weeks so this past saturday I bought some spray and sprayed the entire foundation and all of my internal walls. Needless to say, I haven't seen any more in the house......Fingers Crossed.

I believe at least 1 was a brown recluse and then the other 3-4 were large wolf spiders. I guess I will continue to spray every couple of weeks, in hopes that I can drive them away.

The one that I believe was a brown recluse was not effected much by Raid ant spray and once he fell off the wall he ran toward me. Till I pinched him with a pair of 8" long MAC Tools needle noes pliers.
