Im currently working on a 97 lumina that needs a new ignition. It was towed and the owner never reclaimed and the boss got a key but it doesn't work and we think that the ignition was changed. how do i take the ignition out without mess up the airbag. I know the rest about a steering wheel puller but how do I get around the airbag and the key has that metal strip on the key. If I remember its called VATS. Any help please.

Does the key allow the ignition to unlock? If so, does it just not start? If that's the case then it's just a worn chip in the key. You can have a new one made with the correct key chip resistance value, and that should fix it (if that's the symptom).
Otherwise to change the cylinder, you'll need to remove the airbag, steering wheel, clockspring, signal switch in order to get to a lock screw. I'll try to find some diagrams.Brian

It doesnt unlock. so its going to need a new lock cylinder. So I wll need to know how to get the thing out without jacking up the airbag or anything else.A GOOD FRIEND WILL BAIL YOU OUT OF JAIL, BUT A TRUE FRIEND WILL BE SITTING NEXT TO YOU SAYING,"DAMN THAT WAS FUN."
