  • Grandma Fresh's 1988 GPSE!!!!!

Well here she is the replacement for the 04 grand am GT. Here is the story:

The car was ordered new in 1988 by an elderly couple in Duxbury, MA. It was ordered specifically for the 5 speed trans. Well as the story goes the car was driven by the wife of 50 at the time back and forth to work at the local county clerks office about 5-10 miles a day. Unfortunately the husband died 2-3 years ago and the wife followed suit 10 months ago at the age of 70. A local used car lot who's owners new the couple purchased the car as part of the estate sale. I'm sure they got it for a song since they knew the family.

The car is like buying a new GPSE back in 1988. For a 19 year old car it is in incredible shape. It was always garaged and I think it was never driven in the winter. It has 65 thousand original miles! Everything works and has a fully documented history of maintenance. I even got the original window sticker which show the car cost $17,044 back in 88 which was a pretty hefty price tag back then for car.

Like I already said it has a 2.8 V6 with a 5 speed. Tires are new, brakes are good, suspension feels good, even the darn parking brake works right which is unheard of. The car barely has a mark on it or a chip in the front. I don't think it was ever driven on the highway.

Well I will stop rambling on and show some pictures. I made the trip out to Braintree, MA and bought the car last weekend and drove it back to the southern tier in NY. The alternator crapped out on the test drive so they put a new one in it before I left. The price...........asking $4500 .........I paid $3500!!!!!! Looks like I got a new DD. I'll put it on the road after the GAGT sells hopefully today

WOW! Sweetness. Amazing you got a MOL new car for less than 1/4 of the new price! Great job.
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

Amazing find! Brings back memories of the 88GPSE my dad used to own. It didn't have anywhere near the options that one does though.

Yeah the sticker says it should get 29 on the highway I only got 24-25 on my way back from the dealer probably because of the stale old gas in it.

Dude, are you trying to ruin that perfectly mint car? Why would you put all that crap in the trunk and drive it in the snow!!!
And the car has 72k miles in the picture. How can it have 65k? Drivin a lot eh? Park it!

It's my DD thats why!!! Crap? It was all in bags and the trunk carpet is out. It looks just as mint as the day I got it. Actually it is cleaner than when I got it. I take VERY good care of my vehicles, ask anyone I know Brian, Tat or Lorenzo. Just because it is driven does not make it trash. Why park it? The guy I bought it from parked it for 20 years and look what that got him, $3500 and the car was over 17k new. My COBRA stays in the garage in the winter.....not this car. Wow I can't believe some people......

Hey, Kenny. When you swapped out the clusters, did you roll back the milege so the analog cluster was the same as the digital one?

Kinda like what I did when I put the analog cluster in my gold car. I had to roll if forward so that it said 313,xxx miles like the digital one said.

Also, it looks good. When you gonna drive it down here so we can get pics of it next to my STE?

Funny I didnt think we were ruining it.... I mean it could've only been a few hundred lbs of crap.. no more than you would put in the back seat.

I'm not up for parking cars... when you park them they rust and the fluids either turn acid or diluted....Unless you got a climate controlled garage and are willing to maintain the vehicle even though it's not serving a purpose.... Letting a car sit is one of the worst things you can do to the car and to your wallet.
