Just got a hold of a 3400. Havent had much time to read around about it. whats it like to live with. Problems such as leaks, altenators(hope its not like the LQ1 I just got rid of)maintenance items like oil changes.

Only major issue is lower intake gasket leaks. But once replaced with a metal felpro problem solver gasket, you don't have to worry anymore. The stock and traditional replacements are plastic which warp/crack and then leak coolant into your oil or outside the motor. If coolant gets in the oil it can ruin the bearings and trash the motor. A quick way to see if any is in the oil is to check the bottom of the oil cap for mayonnaise looking gel. That's a sign moisture is getting in there.

That's the only real issue to watch out for. Other than that just normal maintenance and you'll be good to go. My 3100 (98% the same as the 3400) has 200,000 miles and is running great.
