  • Hi !! I'm new here.

My name is Dave(57) and wanted to introduce myself.I would like to build a motorcycle with a 2.8 V6 in it and mount the motor transversly. The 60 degree motor, being compact as it is would be great to use....and I dont foresee any overly complicated drive line issues.
If anyone would like to comment on what I hope to do....please do so!!!
I have a welding machineshop background and have built several bikes from the ground up in the past.
Please offer any comments, etc. Thank you all for any advice and your time.

All I have to say is, good luck!! Is this going to be a true motorcycle, or a trike? Either way, I'd love to see the progress when you start in the project. Let us know if you come across anything you have questions on.

    And welcome to the site!

Brad....what I hope to accomplish is just what I said in my introductory post....I want to build a motorcyle with a 2.8 V-6 transversly in the frame....the motor isnt that long,so the width of the bike wouldnt be too wide with the motor in"sideways"

I want to mount a sprocket off the flywheel with a chain running off it to the clutch basket......the clutch basket would be on the mainshaft of a harley 4 speed with a chain going to the back wheel.

        Awesome...

I've seen some other car engine motorcycles (SBC, BBC, and flathead ford) and thought they were cool... wondered how a 60v6 would be in such. I kinda like the symmetry of longitudinally mounted, but that's just my druthers... and I see some complications doing it that way too.

Hi everyone, by the way... long time no see.

Is it going to be fuel injected?

Fellas....I want to mount this motor in the most sensible way of doing so......I thought about straight in like a boss hoss but the differentials are Crazy expensive!!!! so I got to thinkin about sideways!!!!....there aint no easy way of doin it....but I will find a way.
No it wont be F/I....just an older motor 2.8 with carb.....but nice porting work by Me!!

Can someone help me here? how bout a powerglide with 90 degree take off. I know somebody must make one....maybe Jasper?

you may be better of to go with a gen 2 2.8l. the aluminum heads shave a lot of weight off the top of the motor, and with the flat upper inatke the tank can be monted lower. the downside to this is you would have to run efi, although its not all that complex, you could build a custom wiring harness and run a stock computer. the only hard part would be the high pressure fuel system, however there are small high pressure pumps for efi bikes.

                  >>>>>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiMT2xwL6SM Check out this you tube gig,I didnt take the time to completely review it...but the trike is made by Vendetta motorcycles. At any rate they build a bike with a chevy V8 and V6,what ever ya want!!!
They have a rolling frame with a single speed auto matic...just neutral and 1 speed. They are working on a powerglide to put into their roller....which makes me wonder if Anyone here knows how to incorporate a 90 degree drive off the end of the trans(power glide)
Vendetta aint cheap!!! Just the trans and 90 degree takeoff with torque converter goes for 3500$$ !!!!!

To get back on my original subject here....the V-6 will be carbed and Yeah,I can see issues on mounting it sideways ....If the feul tank is higher than the motor do I still have to have a feul pump? I would think not...correct me if I'm wrong.

the transverse thing aint gonna happen because of the width and possibly oil pan issues....so um back to the drawin board .....I also found out that there may be issues with an MSO,gettin 'er through inspection, etc.

                    Back to the drawing board!!!
