  • totalled Lumina

I came across a '96 Lumina with side-impact damage I want to pick up as a parts car. Anyone know what would be a fair price for me to offer for it? It seems like it was an okay car before the damage, but has 199k on it. The damage is fairly heavy to the drivers side. Both doors are smashed in and it was considered totalled. I'm thinking it's only worth about $150 or so. Does that seem accurate? I hate the whole "make me an offer" game.

Not sure why you would even want it. Its not worth much.

It's just a less expensive way to get the miscellaneous parts I need for my '97 Lumina and a few spare parts for down the road.

As long as you can get enough parts off of it that you will use, sure. I have had parts cars before and they can take up some space for a while. With that many miles, I am not sure how many parts are worth keeping either so if you can get enough out of it to make it worth what you pay, thats alright. Sometimes its easier to go to the junkyard when you need a part and let them hold onto the rest.

$150 is about what he'd get at a scrapyard for it (maybe less) so yeah.

with the maintenance history of the average chevy owner I would say everything is "slap wore out" at 199k. As said before a trip to the pick a part is much easier and eye pleasing that a totalled car in the yard. But hey different strokes for different folks.

Part of the reason I was considering it is that I was going to convert my car to power windows with parts from it. I'm not sure how hard that is, but I wouldn't think it would be too bad assuming all the parts are still useable.

Offer $100, most places MIGHT give that much totaled (they will need a title, too, don't forget), get all that you need off of it, and sell it to the yard. Last car I junked was a 1990 Aerostar, and only got $75 for it (paid for the tow). Most yards will give you $x.xx per lb.
