But you could never lean a diesel engine out to where you would cause damage because the combustion is based solely on fuel delivery. You can still get detonation if you time the injector pump wrong or advance it too much, but basically a diesel can only run too rich. Hmmm, maybe GM thought the LQ1 was a diesel. Maybe THAT's why they're programmed to run so rich!
