  • New Server = Space to Burn!!!

Ok, so now that we are on a new server and in total control, its time to give the donating members some real perks!! I've thought long and hard (for at least 10 min) about what to offer the donators, and I think I finally came up with something worthwhile. Here is what I am proposing...
    • Donating members will get their own subdomain (username.60degreev6.com)
    • Space will be given out according to your donating amount, and is currently set at 4MB for ever $1 (donate $5, get 20MB). I am going to cap this at 100MB, but if you need that much space, well.... get your own server!
Rules I think are pretty simple...
    • Try to keep it car related. I'm probably not going to enforce this too much unless it really gets out of control
    • KEEP IT LEGAL!!! If its something that can get us in trouble for having it on our server, then don't put it up. If I get an email from the host about something, your privledges will be removed.
    • Keep it clean, ie no porn.
I think that's enough rules. It may take me a few days to get everyone set up, but I will send you a PM or email once your area is set up. If anyone has any other recommendations or suggestions, I'm open to them. Just let me know...

Well you need to modify or upload a .htaccess file in the root directory. And you need to CHMOD 755 the file from the ftp or telnet session.

in the .htaccess file it should have a line where the directory and file is whatever you uploaded the .html to.
                      ErrorDocument 404 /a-dir/custom404.html

This is assuming it's a unix based server like apache :P

On second thought, best to let Brad do it
As you are the Destroyer of html code! hehehe

Cool, thanks. Now we have a nice new 404 page. Its actually alot easier than what you said. I just had to goto the "Custom Error Pages" tab in the control panel and paste in the code.

Anyway, as far as the subdomain does, yes you will have FTP access to your site ONLY. Once I get everything sorted out, then I will PM/email people all of their access information, including their site name, available space, and FTP login information. After that, you are mostly on your own. I am willing to assist in some site work, but I won't be creating any pages for anyone. If people in a MySQL database, I might be able to figure that out as well.

No problem Brad! It's been almost 10 years since I had a dedicated IP server, and back then you had to do things by hand. No online control panels/etc.

Oh BTW, you might want to edit the HTML code, and put something in the <title> tags other than "New Page 1". I missed that.

So you're ready to start this then I suppose?
