  • need help with 2000 Grand Prix WIRING

I want to use a 2000 Grand Prix SHIFTER in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme. The main reason is that I need for the PRNDL to work and I need the mounts for the newer center console. The older console has the front mounts in front of the shifter, but the newer shifter has it BEHIND the shifter.

There is a HUGH differance in the way that they are wired, and I can't just simply test the wires. The older shifter has an EXTERNAL brake lock, and the newer one has it all integrated.

My 1995 Cutlass Supreme only has 4 wires going into the center console, and the connector for the 2000 has like 10 wires. I need to know which wires it has and what they are for.

    Thanks.

I took some pics so you can see what is different. The 2000 grand prix shifter has a 6 pin connector that has 5 wires going into it. 2 are PINK and they are spliced together, so I think it is safe to say that they are both HOT IN RUN, but the other 3 I need to know how they work, and what they are connected too.

The BIGGEST differance is that everything is INTEGREATED, and there is only 1 cable that goes to it. It only has the SHIFTER CABLE, and the PARK LOCK cable is not used. This tells me that it has 2 internal locks. One for the KEY and one for the BRAKE.

    The wires are
    ORANGE/BLACK,
    PINK,
    PINK,
    PURPLE/WHITE and
    GREEN/WHITE

Seeing that the 2 pink ones are spliced together, that tells me that are a HOT IN RUN, but the other 3, I don't know what they are for or where they go, and I have no way of testing them.

For now, I have shoved a piece of paper under the lock release but I would like for it to work properly.

If someone can get me the diagram, I would appreciate it. Here are some pics of the newer style shifter.

the shifter may use a reverse lock out and park lock. Also this shifter may also direct a neutral signal where the neutral safty switch is built into the shifter. I looked for info but could not find any.

I think the shifter assy is self grounding.

Without a schematic you have to find a way to test it, like a 5 amp fused battery source.

The VSS signal may actually goto that switch on the Green/white which is VSS high, the purple/white may be a brake switch negative input, Orange/white may be brake switch input positive.

Pink not sure if both are hot in run, one may be hot in key on the other may be hot in crank.

someone over on club GP actually had the info. They said they were going to get me a diagram, but so far, I have not got it.

The 2 pink wires are connected together, so they are BOTH hot in run,
ORANGE/BLACK - Goes to the PRNDL switch
          PURPLE/WHITE - key lock solenoid
          GREEN/WHITE - stop lamp switch

I am not sure what the key lock solenoid is. But the stop lamp switch I understand.

Once I get the diagram, all will be made clear.

          LOL
