Yes this topic usually gets my blood flowing too.
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

      My two cents...

... As a person who has worked as a mechanic, my opinion is that Toyota and Honda have better cars. You put one on a lift and the difference can be seen right away. Beefier parts, thicker frames, heavier welds, even the quality of the metalurgy seems better. They don't make crap, Fords and Chevys look unfinished and unrefined, and that's just to the naked eye. If I had the money I would buy Toyota, period!

Whats funny though, is GM has less problems per million than toyota and honda. And that's according to JDM Power and Associates. Not to mention crash stastics, hondas and toyotas blow apart much quicker than American cars.

i have to add my two sense i found out about he the new tundra, first the frame is the same desighn as the previous tundra, the just made it a little longer but no stronger and it does flex quite a bit with a good load in the bed. my buddy bought one and had about 600lbs in the (concrete and bricks) he decied to take it off road. well it's in the body shop now and will probley be totaled because while off road the we got on an area that had a funky angle and it tweaked the whole cab and bed engouh to have ripples in the bed and you can't open the passneger doors anymore. also they trucks only have there final ass. here everything eles comes from japan, it's cheaper to imort them like that. yes some of there fit and finish is better but i'm not impressed at the least, also the milage on the thing is horible, my buddys old GMC with a 5.3 got 17MPG in town and his new toyota only gets 12MPG in town with the 5.7, i will stick to my chevys any day

Capitalism and the greed that goes with it. Sort of like the old saying "Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die". America has a nasty habit of not taking responsibility for problems it caused, be it illegal hiring, cheating the public by charging premium price for first rate junk (that's what helped put Honda on the map), out sourcing to other countries to fix the problem and paying CEOs to much and slapping them on the wrist when they trash your pension fund.

The general public plays a part to; buying foreign, expecting to get something for nothing or more for the same price then complaining about the process of getting it- outsourcing, and illegal hiring practices. America blames Mexicans for job problems when in fact they're being taken advantage of by the companies who hire illegal immigrants for the soul purpose of saving money. The companies are the ones that those who blame immigrants should be mad at because an immigrant can't come here and will his or herself a job. Some of us are accusing Mexicans of taking "our" jobs even when they are doing jobs that we wouldn't consider working.

Then there is the Gov't that allows us to be taken advantage of via trade disproportion to maintain good diplomatic standings, etc... I heard on the radio a couple of days ago that the piracy of American creativity and artistry going on in China is astronomical in scale and far more sophisticated and productive than what we do through Kazaa, Limewire and sweat shops. What good are rules when no one is following them but us. America is "soft" and everybody knows it. That's why we are getting screwed.

All that really matters is MPG, price, and dependability for the task at hand because they're all in "cahoots" together as far as I'm concerned. The general public probably creates more of a difference between the manufacturers than there really is. It's mix and match now, you don't have to buy a foreign car to get a foreign drive train and visa-versa.

That's my unresearched take on the matter. GM is my preference, I believe they make the best V6 overall.

And 8, and 4, and heck. Even their 5 is good. I could open up a whole new can of worms with this, but I wont. Just try to find motors that can compare with GM's new stuff. They can't. And build quality? Yep. GM takes the cake on that too.
