I need to defrost

Damn, how could the rear defrost be an option? And I don't have it .

Has anyone installed the rear defrost on the glass? Maybe an aftermarket kit?

Or, I could just get an AC converter, hook up a hair-blow dryer and go to town.
Guess I would have to take off the old tint first, how hard is it to remove the old tint off windows? Any tips?

I have it factory so I dunno on an install. I don't know if you have the wires that go to the back for the defrost. Old tint can be a bitch. A heat gun will be your best bet that I am aware of.

I know it would involve some wiring to the rear, as well as getting a new nob with the defrost button on it. But thanks for the heat gun tip.

The wires are probably stashed under the trim but not hooked up. I do not have a rear defroster either or fog lights. But I do have both the wires for fog lights and rear defroster by where the switches are (connectors just dangling behind where the switches go), and the wires for fog lights are under the bumper just taped up with the connectors there. So it's highly likely that back in my trim pillars the wires for the rear defroster are there too. I would imagine you have the same thing. It's easier for a factor to make one wiring harness that has all options, and just not plug certain options in if they aren't used.

AFAIK you'd have to replace the whole window with one that had a defroster. Or you could try that paint on stuff used to repair rear defrosters, but that would look ghetto to paint on the whole thing unless you masked it off and were able to replicate it perfectly, and attach the connector.

To remove tint, get some ammonia or a cleaner with a lot of it in it. (I used 409 I think). Then spray the tint with the stuff, and stick a black trashbag over that. Let it sit in the sun and get nice and hot, keeping the ammonia between the tint and bag to soak in. Then you should be able to just peel off huge portions of it. If you don't do this then you will be scraping a million slivers off with a razor blade. Keeping it wet is the key here. Ammonia dissolves the glue in the tint. I did it on a hot day and was sweating and breathing in ammonia, but it worked great. Clean up with a razor blade and more ammonia. Then clean the remaining residue off with more cleaner. Also put down some towels on the rear deck and seats to protect from excess cleaner (might want to put some black trashbags down first to water proof it.)
