  • 1996 Grand Prix SE Sedan Amp wiring..

I have a '96 Grand prix sedan, and I need to get the power wire through the firewall. I've looked all around and cannot find a hole in the firewall anywhere. I would drill but I cannot even find a place that looks safe to drill a hole. Does anyone have a 90-96 grand prix sedan who has an idea of a place I could run the wire through? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Look on the drivers side, under the dash, start ripping the carpet out. It's WAY back/up there (it's towards the left side when your under the dash) but you will find a rubber grommet where I believe your column shifter cable goes through (since you have a sedan like me). Just get some pliers and rip out the rubber, and shine a light through the hole so you can find it under the brake booster in the engine bay.

A 4-8 guage wire can run through there, carefully. Try not to cut into the wire with the sharp metal edges down there. I ran mine through and put some tape around the power line so the sharp metal wouldn't mess with it. It works great, comes up right next to the battery under the hood.

Just make sure you don't bend that shift cable in there, carefully pull the power wire through next to it and let the grommet hang/rip it off since you won't get it back on there with the power cable unless you feel like cutting/drilling it.

Thanks for the help... I was starting to think about that grommet tonight because I've seen a lot of pics of it lately... I knew it was the column shifter cable but it looked pretty tough when I saw it today so I was going to try it, but thank you very much for reassuring me to go with that. I wasn't looking forward to trying to drill and killing some random part on the other side. Thanks again.

i have a lot of wires run through there in my 1988 Cutlass Supreme (including the shifter cable from when I converted it from column shift to floor shift).

In my 1995 Cutlass Supreme, I just ran a wire through there to connect the DRL's to the foglights. In mine, I just had a rubber grommet in there (seeing that it is floor shifted, and the floor shifter has the cable ran through in a different spot).

You can just pull some of the material out of the way, but I recommend trying to get the wire THROUGH the grommet. That way you don't have to worry about it cutting your wire.

Heh. I ended up running it through the hood release cable's grommet. I flipped my Scosche wiring kit around, you know, those extremely high quality kits. It had a 5 gauge going to a 9. I used the 9 from the battery to the distributer block, then the 5 to the amp, seeing as how it would be cut down to a 9 gauge anyways it doesn't really matter where it would go I would think. Anyways, I just wanted to let you guys know I conquered this. Now today to go do all the maintenance my car needs. Would it be safe to say that if there is oil in my coolant it needs a LIM job?
