  • 1986 Firebird Trans Am>>What it it really worth

How much would you all think a 1986 Pontiac T/A 19100 (thats nineteen thousand miles) with WS6 performance package 5 speed manual 5.0L HO V8 is worth???

The only thing is doesen't have is the Pontiac treatment for example it doesn't have badges, but it is a HO engine factory and no pinstripping. I guess the guy wanted to save some bucks on the decal cost.

    It has documents verifing mileage.

Prestine interior back on grey and smells wonderfully new inside. All original, numbers match, original paint, original glass, you get the idea. Also the build marks are still visable and there is next to no rust anywhere on this beauty.

Black book value very little. Find a Trans Am nut and they will pay.

And you don't want a 5.0 TBI, trust me.

My dad's 4.3L TBI V6 dynoed mroe tq and 3 less hp than my best friend's 1991 Trans Am 5-speed. It was rumored that the V6s were just as fast.

                Should only be a 600....

The quadrajet is a weird carb. It is a good carb, when tuned PERFECTLY. But if the floats are slightly off or anything else(idles screws, etc), they suck ass. We traded a Holley 670 Street Avenger for a 650 Quadrajet, and my god. It woke the car up, it was so much faster. Those secondaries kick in, and it just growls. I shifted out of 1st at 45, and the speedo went straight to 75, cuz it was sensing the rear tires, of which were laying down striping. Now I am not a fan of Holleys, but it helped soooo much. Car is a 1968 Camaro, 350 4-speed 4BBL, posi, Comp Cams, 2.02 heads, Roller rockers, etc.

I was thinking it would definitly need a 350 for sure.

Don't do that either. You need a good motor before boost. Otherwise you will run into problems.

We also have a 1955 Bel AIr. It ahs a 400 SBC, with a high lift foller cam from Comp, etc. It is built and has laid down 450+hp on the dyno when built. Then it got a Weind(sp?) 142 blower with a Mighty Demon 750 carb. It is not running well yet, the MSD-6 is on the way. But it definately helped a lot, I got it to run and it picked up.

If I were you, I would swap a 350 into it. A carburated 350, mildly built for maybe 320-370hp, then play with that.

SBC are cheap, a bare block will run you 50$ if you get scammed, and a complete semi-decent rebuild will be less than 3k$ for 350hp.

That's is why before you build it, take it to a machine shop and have them A)inspect it
                        B)Hot Tank
                        C)Magnaflux
