  • Adding to the Tree

Some people made the suggestion to add more in depth detail to the family tree. So ask and yee shall recieve

I have started a rough outline. The engines will be broken into pushrod and DOHC and each will have details on the Block (including construction, design, bearings and oil system) Crank (including journals, construction and design) heads (including construction, valves, ports, combustion chamber and valvetrain) I will also get into the rods and pistons. I don't think I am going to get into EFI detail right now but I may do it later. I do need some DOHC pics though I have never seen a naked block, heads and the cam drive system before. So if anyone has one on a stand they can get some high resolution pics from that would be awsome. I have not gone throught the gallery yet but I will get to it. This level of detail is going to take some time but when it is finished it should be quite extensive. I have also ordered the "How to rebuild the GM 60 degree V6" book and the Service Training manual. I also own a GM shop manual and the GM power manual. So Info will come from them aswell as the engines I own and ones I have worked on.

If you aren't in a big hurry, I can get you any 3.4 DOHC pictures you want later on. I have some stuff to scan that you might find interesting to put with your tree as well.

I have some larger ideas for this site that includes the tree/history. I look forward to seeing what you end up with

Well I would like to include everything I can about the engine. Pics are hard to come by. Things that differ from the pushrod are most important, like the lifter valley delete the oil pump drive system which in turn drives the timing belt. Then the heads aswell. Things like the crank and rods I don't need pics of.

This is just the first draft on just the engine block. I will add more pics and info as I get ahold of it.

Yea I figured it wasent too bad for just a couple hours work. Do you think I should keep the DOHC blocks seperate or all the same? I mean the blocks were quite different and I am not sure how the oiling system worked.

If you can send me that info Ben I will do something with it wether it gets blended in or seperated.

I will have to remove my sound card and install the scsi card so i can scan, but I need to scan some other stuff anyway. I have the assembly book from GM on the 95 DOHC, that lists the revisions and dates and engineer initials. Nice diagrams I also have some other books that go into detail on the engine. 96-97 is what I dont have that much info on other than the major changes.
