  • Piston Thieves....

Ok guys, watch out, someone is sneaking into garages and stealing pistons out of engines.

My buddy called and told me about this today, I started cracking up, and had to have him send me pics.

My sister got a new car because her old one quit. Its a 1992 Lumina. I started dismantling the engine. Once I got the manifold off, I saw a bend push rod. odd. Then I got the Cyl. Heads off. Odder

Note the relativly unscathed oil ring and wrist pin.

No chunks, shavings, chips, or anything. Nothing to mention on the drain plugs either. I cleaned the cyl. wall of the oil, and its still glass-smooth.

Nice carnage. I saw a '94 3100 in a Monte Carlo the other day at my local junkyard that suffered a very similar failure.

Crazy.. haha, kinna reminds me of back b4 I started to make my own crazy contraptions with my buddys, I was working at a speedshop on the weekends helping them out with a there 707ci Pro-Mod corvette, and juss about every second weekend we would pull out 1 or 2 pistons with a holes straight threw them from the pounds nitrous being rammed in. I dont have any pictures, but I do have some aluminum chips for a suvineer of what not to do.. also a GN turbo 3.8 that leaned out for a couple seconds also made the same Ultra low compression donut pistons.. But never the less its still fun to push engines to there limits, and drive em till they die
