  • Fuck the alternator, my exhaust manifold ownz me!

3 hours of work, and car was already jacked up, and the front manifold and crossover were already off, and I didn't get the rear manifold out of the POS car. 3 hours and I got 8 fucking bolts!!! Goddamn I have said so many words not safe for children it isn't even funny!

I got the spring bolts from rear manifold to downpipe no problem(*blesses the Getrag for having room under the car*)

But then the 6 studded nuts. Oh my Fucking God. The bottom 3 were kinda easy, just not much room to spin the ratchet. But I got them. Now for the top 3. Yes! The alternator gets inthe way of Cylinder 1's top bolt. Cyl 3's top bolt was easiest. But then Cyl 5's. WTF??? It is BEHIND the rear manifold. OMG what a terrible design. I finally got it, getting it from above! That SUCKED!!! Do not attempt without beer, A LOT OF BEER. I now I have to remove the studs, which will be tough, but they shouldn't be too bad because they aren't oblong. The nuts are, they aren't perfect circles, they are ablonged, so upon removal, they get tight, loose, tight, loose, tight loose. AND IT SUCKS.

    *Done venting*

yes but just think Aaron... IF those nuts were not Purposly Oval, you'd get to get under the car and for 3 hours everyweek, you'd get to Tighten those Round Nuts that back off due to not holding properly

(im sure you know this already though)

ha, yeah im spoiled having air tools and a lift to work on my car

I would remove the rear head and just remove the downpipe from the manifold. Easier that way, and you can toss the head back on for test fitting using the same head gasket.

thats not too bad I will get to modify my firewall and (god forbid) maybe even chop up my S&S headers a bit to get them to clear my firewall. Thats gonna really suck. Though I might enjoy cutting into the firewall

Two things are preventing the manifold from coming out.

                    1) The EGR rods coming out the top go up by the top of the cam cover, and tey are right against the frewall. So it won't pull out far enough to clear the studs. So I am going to unbolt the mounts, rock it forward using the axles as a pivot, and then cut the EGR rods off with a cutter we have. Then they will get burned using any flammable liquid I can get my hands on. Then I will piss all over them.

                    2) I can't get the downpipe to push back far enough to let the manifold clear the studs. So I started cutting the downpipe off, but I don't have a tool that will cut the enitre pipe, I uded a small Jigsaw for most of the pipe. This is the least of the worries tho.

I am sooooooo sick of this car right now it isn't even funny.

You realize how bad it is when I know EXACTLY where every bolt is, what tool to get it off with, and what size it is.

And I also had to pull my plenum, which has gotten really easy and took me 2 min and 15 seconds.

I have an Air Gun, but my Air Ratchet doesn't work

Hey, has any body tried porting their ehaust manifolds? I think I will. Also does any body know if ceramic plating the manifolds and cross-over pipe really helps dissipate some of the excess heat?

Porting it is a waste, and i have mine ceramice coated minus the crossover because SOMEONE NEVER SENT IT TO ME CHRIS...hehe, bastard. They cool off faster, but i didnt get a laser temp reading on them so I can't say if its worth it or not.
