  • guess i must make my self known

allo, i'm nikkievix, A.K.A. melissa (yes a girl in the group) 36 years old from california. i've worked on all of my own cars and trucks since i first started to drive at 15 years old. been swinging a wrench or two since i was 4 and helping my dad on his cars. could say i was born with with gas in my veins. hehe... any way my current project is one i got on april 6th after my 93 taurus decided to crap its transmission coming home from court ( was a bad girl) and stopped 3 miles from home. nice walk. so i bought this 1984 GMC jimmy S-15 4wd off my boss for about $750. ran like hell, hard to idle and found his mechanic forgot to reconnect a main vacuum line last time it was in his shop. reconnected and ran like a champ........for 3 weeks. then the fun started.
found the ignition timing was set to 22 degrees BTDC, the ignition control modual went out 20 miles from home, easy road side replacment, old modual was original GM. new plugs (bosch double platinums) new wire set, cap and rotor. did all of that and ran decent but developed a knock and when accelerating it would try and stall out and then take off. 2 days ago on a beer run, the idle stop solenoid kicked out and held it at about 1400 rpm even at a stop, would make the truck creep. then yesterday morning i picked up the rebuild kit for the carb, was the kit for both california and federal varajet 2 E2SE carbs. got it back together, started it up, idle was loooooow so turned it up to about 550 rpm and was smooth, chewcking everything over and with out touching the carb or anything the primary vacuum break pulled in all the way and choke closed up and engine shot from my 550 to over 5000 in a few seconds and i ran and shut it off.
did that a few times and i took it off, inspected and reinstalled... now i'm getting gas spraying from the carb vowl vent line on the vapor canister and erupting like a volcanoe through the vent stack. i regret even opening that thing up. gonna have to tear it back down today. so heres a pic of my truck.

gas shooting through the carb vent sounds like stuck or sunk float. Maybe even way out on the needle setting.

Nothing wrong with women wrenching. I have 3 daughters, 16, 14, 11. AND they all work on cars in my shop. Have since they could count. Welcome to the site.
sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.
