  • new guy with Opel gt's

    Hi all.

I"m another new guy to this forum. I have 2 project cars ( opel gt's ) and want to put a fwd 3.1 into a rwd car using an automatic transmission. found the fwd 3.1 has sarter on drivers side. any ideas of what transmission will work as most set up for starter on passanger side.

    Thanks

    Wade

a V6 700R4 works fine, you just have to trim out a hole for the starter nose in the flexplate cover and patch the hole on the other side. . That's exactly what i did and mine works good. I've got a '04 3500 V6 with a '93 700R4 in a '89 Camaro.

That sounds like a cool project. I just put a 3500 and 700R4 into an 80 Chevy Monza. My advice would be to start with a 3500 rather than a 3.1. You can get a nice clean low mileage one very cheap, and the HP and torque payback will be well worth it.

I am in the process of doing a turbo 3.4 in a 69 GT right now, using a 700-R4 and a Ford 8.8 rear end. I have pics and a lot of info on fitting the 60 deg engine into the GT's. Any questions contact me on this site (dskopek is my contact on here)
