  • John was trying to be clever with his highlander shirt reference. We use it to cover engines, so when john says "there can be only one" I say "engine cover".

      • Here is the vid

I'll get a better one today or tomorrow, Running a lot better now since well the VE is dialed in much better than that was, and now I'm on the maf sensor again so its smoothed out.

Had a fitment issue with the J-body Jack Shaft Carrier bearing setup... for some reason when I installed it into this trans it will not sit flush against the block, if I try to get it to sit right, its pushing the shaft backwards and I think miss aligning the jackshaft in reference to the splines on the spider gears and thats just a no no....

        Bottom is hitting the block

Top of the bracket is about 1/4 away from the block and I can't press it against the block without it pre-loading the axle backwards and that's going to wreck the diff.

If anyone has any input that would be great, but I'm going to take it to the inlaws tomorrow and put it up on the lift so I can get a better look at it and see how much its trying to push outward and if I can make it fit with a slight clearancing of the bottom of that bracket, or if its just not going to fit...

Makes no sense to me because the other jack shaft and bracket fit fine, His original one is the beretta style, Aluminum housing bolted to the trans and the bent aluminum bracket holding that to the motor. If the aluminum bracket were made from steel then this setup would be fine, and better since this way the carrier bearing is actually oiled, where this other one is a sealed bearing, BUT it's a little bit more robust than the Beretta style.

Is there a difference in that area of the block on say a 96 3100 or 01 3400 vs this 03 3400? I didn't think the block changed from 01 to 03, but I could be wrong.

        • Lol. Any shirt that's not on someone's back turns 0-rag in 4.5sec. I was using it to cover a late m3 motor while the valve cover was off. Tried it on, but it was too tight.

Making one wouldn't be an issue, but making sure things line up would without a car here.

                        • I was going to turbo the car before i started this build.
Maybe when jon does more tuning in the spring there might be a 50shot in the future

                          • Here is the other jackshaft in place.

What I had to grind away

It was way easier to see what was going on and ensure that it was only a small clearance issue when I had it up on the lift, I also decided to fully rebuild the carrier and do a new seal and new bearing.

                            Seal in trans side

                            • i've never seen that motor mount by the jack shaft on a v6 before. Would that engine mount setup benifit from putting in that dog bone mount to the oil pan? wow its been a while since i layed eyes on a beretta

                              Its runs!!!>>>Aint No 60* Sound Like Mehttp://youtu.be/YKEmNwa141U

                              • No, not really... Thats an older beretta engine mount setup. There is a front mount just above where the inlet to the radiator is that bolts to right above the AC compressor, look back a page you can see were that mount had issues fitting the original AC delete pulley I got, I had to get the delete pulley for his year beretta, not for the engine type, then reuse his AC bracket.

So there is a mount mid block height on the front and the back and then the single top mount on the trans, He's running the billet solid one, as well as a small dog bone going from the front bottom of the trans to the subframe.... 4 mounts total on the previous years, the newer ones were only three... the large top mount and lower dog bone and then the single trans mount that can easily rock.... My setup would benefit from a dog bone on the passenger side now that I think about it.
