The cover has to be clearanced. I might have a cover here, but if not, TCE has a jig to shave it inside.

Come Jan-Feb, I'll be dropping some cash at wot-tech. Gonna man up and ditch this stock camshaft for a nice turbo cam w/ supporting head mods.....Seems like a double chain would be crucial for any aggressive cam profile with boost...sure don't want to break the chain and wreck havoc. And if the budget permits, forged pistons would rock.

      Okay, thread jacking finished.......haha

Remember though the DR sets aren't available right now due to cost to hold inventory of a part that doesn't sell well. I'm still doing fine on my stock chryo treated set.

Figure the DRTC couldn't hurt, and a few extra poines also.
Yeah i wanted to go 10:5.1 Compression but im going to stay a 9:1
Maybe next year jon can help me with a 50 shot.lol

I don't even know if the DR gives you any hp gain. As noted my chryo treated stock set is still holding up at least 3 years later.

Everything should be fully clearanced now for the DR set, I won't be back on this till Thursday then maybe I'll have the heads and timing cover on by then.

I remember somewhere that it helped alittle with power.
Either way i feel better with it since people say they have snapped chains and damaged there engines.
Maybe it's the DRTC with the timing marks that helps more with a few extra poines not sure but we'll see

                Looks great Jon.
Maybe I should ship all my parts to you so you can build mine.....
How was it to get the crank scraper positioned correctly? Any trimming or filing required?
Out of curiosity, what did it run you to have the machine work done for the DR timing set?

When i installed my DRTC setup i did not have to cut the front cover at all, did have to grind just a little on the block to give the chain some more room to move around as it gets older and loose.
Did my own machine work on the crank, only took 1/2 hour to set up,cut and clean up.

Crank machine work was free since it was a friend, but a shop shouldn't take any longer than an hour to do it.

I clearanced the front cover with hand tools just to ensure that it wont touch the chain... Took some time and made A LOT of aluminum chips... Reminded me of when I was porting my heads... lol But yeah that should be more than clear, I also touched the block where the main is since that was very close, and then just the larger oil galley plug I rounded the corner. I have .030 clearance in that area so it should be good.

When I did a test fit, the lower sprocket was far enough out for the chain to rub the front cover, so most of my work was done down by the seal end of the cover to ensure space.

If it works just as good for moderate boost and an aggressive turbo cam, sure.

I have a "turbo" cam or at least one that is being sold as one now is VERY similar to mine, I'm also running the 986 springs, so its a question on if the 986 springs are sufficient for moderate boost, The chain has no idea of boost being present other than the heavier springs needed to support it, so its cam duration and spring pressure you need to look at.

                            Head studs ftw...

And GM headgaskets are the best second to the MLS one's.

If i recall for my build it was 130$ to get the crank machined
