  • New to the 60*, but not building things.

Hey, Gang. New to the site (obviously) and I am looking forward to learning and hopefully, sharing, information on these little engines. I had a chance to pick up a later 2.8 from an S10 for $100, complete, and since I enjoy building things that are "not right" I figured that I would look into stuffing it, and the rest of the needed parts, into my 90 model Geo Tracker. This ought to be fun when it is finished.

welcome! sounds like a fun project, do you plan for fuel injection, TBI or carb?

Thanks for the welcome. I will be posting some pictures up as I get the pieces together, and of the install as it goes along. I am going to be running TBI for the simplicity, ease of finding parts and the fact that I allready have an intact TBI setup, including the fuel lines, ECU ( 1227429 ) and the harness, all matching from an S10. I am going to be perusing the site for quite some time, I think before I get down to the nitty-gritty, as I want to set this up as a full stand alone, so that I minimize the down time on the Tracker.
        See ya'll around!

80Scooter, are you the one with the 2.8 swapped Chevette? If so, how is that working for you, since it has been done for awhile now? Your thread was pretty helpful allready, as for the little things like running the exhaust, and thoughts on the engine mount brackets.

              Thanks!
Actually I swapped a 3.4L/4L60E from a 94 Camaro and I'm so close to driveability I could scream.
I'm holding off on my 3500 top-swap until after I've gotten some seat time with it like this.
After 3 1/2 years of work I just want to drive it now.
All the plumbing is done and the wiring is about half-done, currently reassembling heater ducting so I can finish up the rest of the wiring.
The 80 Chevette in my sig has been stripped and sold to help fund my 81 Chevette with the 3.4L/4L60E.
I still need to add this build to my 60degreev6.com garage but it can be seen on CarDomain here...

Sounds like you and I have a bit in common: We seem to want more power,Scotty. I know what you mean about being so close to having something drivable. I have built a turbo'd 4.9 stroker from a Jeep 4.0, to a YZ250 that ran on 85% Nitro-methane to a 331 Ford SB powered Ranger 4wd that was a rockcrawler/racer to the current project Tracker. Everyone of them has made to the home stretch, including test runs, before the major headaches decided to show up (hi-rpm issues, going lean at random moments, things like that). Ah, well. The curse of "Tinkeritous" right? I tried to look at your cardomain, but it is saying that it is having issues right now...

The curse of "Tinkeritous", I like that
That's just my luck to post my cardomain right while they're having some kind of meltdown.
Here's album 1 on my Facebook (public links)...

                  and album 2...

They haven't been updated as recently as the cardomain though.

Oh, I just started my build thread on here. It is the engine swap forum, under "Hybrid, huh?"

Your new 'vette has a hood style that looks ALOT like the early Mopar 6pack scoop going on in the beginning there. Wiring this has been interesting, hasn't it?

Cool, you may confuse a few people though because around here "hybrid" means mixing parts from different generations of 60*V6.
I look forward to seeing how a 2.8L fits in a Tracker, I've considered doing exactly that before.

Cardomain seems to have straightened out whatever problem they were having and my page is back up at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/384652...rolet-chevette
I've gotten all the plumbing done and I'm currently working through the wiring... a slow painful process for me
