  • New to 60 Degree V6 - 84 S10 Blazer

    Hi All,

I picked up a nice 1984 S10 Blazer 4x4. I was going to build my truck with a typical v8 until I discovered that the 60 degree v6 engine is worth keeping and building (not my 84" block though). I am amazed at the capability of these engines and I love the fact that they are naturally balanced. My project is starting off pretty good. I do have the 1984' engine in my truck and it is running but I just picked up two 1998 3.1 (3100) aluminum head engines. I am going through my options right now but I am very excited at what I've got to work with. I'll post pictures in the garage section.

you would probley be better off getting a 3.4 motor out of a camaro to start with as all the mounts would all be the same. then top it off with 3400 or 3500 heads.
alot of guys here can help you they will come in soon. and let you know what is the eazest way to the power you want !!

Oh boy, there are a LOT of options here, of which you have a LOT.

Thee engine you have in there though, is carbureted and has small journals, and wont hold up to much over 300 HP, if it ever makes it there.

If youre looking for a nice stronger daily driver, I would go through and just mount one of your 3100's inside and do what is needed to mount it as RWD. Oh yeah, and add a computer...

When I joined this forum I was dead set on building my 2.8, but they quickly showed me that wasnt the cheap way to go.

What I am doing is building a hybrid motor:
3.4 block out a camaro, ported 3500 top end from a malibu maxx, and 7730 computer from a beretta.

Now that I think about it, I really would have been better off buying a whole 3500 and swapping that, it would have been cheaper in the long run 'cause I wouldnt even need to open up the engine and do machine work. And the money I save on the machine work and parts I could use to buy the things I need to mount it and get it running.

This may be a silly question but has anybody swapped in a 3100 SFI engine in an old carb'd vehicle that needs a new computer and harness?

I know raven has, except his block was a rwd block with FWD heads and a turbo...
              And his was carbed too

In reality, if you know your way around wiring (I see it as a connect the dots game) and some slight fabrication, you should be set.

Most of what you need to get it to bolt up is exists as a GM product, and I doubt you will need very many things you cant get at a junkyard.
If you play your cards right the biggest hurlde of custom work would be mounting the block and wiring it to the computer, then other minor things from there, like fuel lines, turning the intake manifolds the right way, throttle cable, and other smaller things.
