  • Greetings fellow sixers

    Hello to all. I have recently come into possession of a nice little Fiero SE. I'm torn between doing a 4.9 swap or building a nice 60 degree. I tinkered with a 3.1 in a Beretta GT (cam and roller tip rockers) and the potential was pretty obvious. So I have come to investigate further and evaluate both the triumphs and the failures of these engines to help me make up my mind. The only other experience I've had with a 60 degree was in my old 74 Mustang II (2.8, carb, breaker points and regular fuel......). Great site by the way.

    Welcome! There are several guys on here with Fieros to get ideas from, and most are always willing to help out.

      the caddy 4.9 is a rather heavy motor and only pushes out ~200HP/275TQ. you could meet both of those with a worked over 3500 pretty easily, just look at Superdave.

        hell a bone stock 3500 will get you 200whp with the right tune. and still have plenty of torque.

        with a v8 you'll have no room to work, and won't ever really have much traction, just too much torque. plus, liek said, it's heavy. why spoil the fieros decent handling with a big 'ole boat anchor like a 4.9? :P

        Cammed 3400 --> 224whp 210wtq
        Cammed 3500 --> ???

          Actually, I was standing on the pit cross-over daydreaming over a 3.5 that was in a Malibu LT I was servicing. I have also scratched my chinny chin chin whilst ogling a hulking 2.9 four banger in a Colorado. I've got plenty of time, the car ain't going anywhere and is completely driveable as is for the moment.
