  • Great Site Turbo 6000 Q.

Ive been refering to this site for quite some time now for help here and there but now i think im gonna ask some questions that may not have been asked before. My Dad and I have recently ran into a little problem with his 88 6000 wagon w/2.8 . Coolant Coming from the rear head no big deal just do the head gaskets right. I wish, the rear corner of the block where the head bolt goes in was cracked. So there happened to be a wrecked 90 TGP In the yard my little brother destroyed. As of now the motor / trans fits great is bolted up and the asc meclaren radiator and stock tgp intercooler are installed. Heres the problem the 6000 computer is under the dash and has mass air while the tgp is under the hood and has a map ? Does anyone know what the best/easiest direction would be. My thoughts Are to use the 6000 harness and pull the pins out of the plugs and tranfer them to the tgp computer not use the mass and add the map? And i belive the stock auto tranny has a 4 pin plug and tgp trans has a 5 pin. I have all the diagrams to switch the pins. What do ya think......... Oh and we already got a tgp fuel pump w/new sending unit

There was a guy over at a-body.net named turbosewgn who did this with an 87 6000 wagon, including a few upgrades. I recall hearing a wheel horsepower figure of 247 through an automatic. I don't think he ever posted a build thread, so I would head over there and see if you can get a hold of him. He hasn't posted in quite some time, but he would still be the best bet.

EDIT: Post pics, I love wagons.

The computers are actually the same between your car and the TGP. The 6000 uses a 730 ecm, and the TGP a 727. The 727 is just an underhood version of the 730, inside they are physically the same. Now there are some wiring differences, search for the IAT sensor upgrade for the 87-88 2.8 cars (uses 2 of the 5 or so wires that are already going to your MAF), and also there is extra wires for the boost control solenoid (you should be able to just re-wire your extra maf wires). All you need is the memcal (chip) from the TGP. Or an image of it, and a burner to make your own. You should be able to find all the info your need between this site, and tgpforums.com

Edit: you also require the 2bar Map sensor from the TGP.

Ill post some pics of the wagons as soon as i can. wow thats the best way of going about this by far. makes alot of sense. so as far as the the boost controler just pull the pins from the maf at the ecm and put them back in where the boost goes right. that should be the only thing thats not there at all cause it has a maf and map stock so the map should just get swapped out

i noticed one more thing the tgp has some kind of fluid assisted brake booster with no vaccum. so the manifold doesnt have a port to hook up the 6000 booster - drill and tap or is there a better way

Use the intake from the 2.8. Or you can buy a poted intake from the WOT-Tech store. There's a link at the top of every page.
