  • Another new to the site post...lol

    Hello fellow 60 degree heads,

From what I have seen, this site has a lot of great info !!!
I am the owner of 2 Chevy Berettas. The main one i am dealing with at the moment is a 95 with a 3100 and obviously the 4t60e automatic tranny.
I don't know if anyone else here uses their Beretta for what I use mine for.
I am a circle track racer. The Beretta in general is the more popular style of car used at my track. The other popular make is Honda, and yes those import 4 bangers are great competition against our 60 degree american power.

We are supposed to run strictly stock with the exception of standard safety stuff like roll cages, racing seats, and racing harness. We are also allowed to run negative camber on the right side suspension and positive on the left front. The drivers all voted to use the Falken Azenis ft-615 performance tire.
For the money, it's a great road grabbing tire.

My main dilema is, I need more speed in second gear, or more pick-up/ torque in 3rd. I'm running on a 1/5 mile oval. The five speed guys are running in second gear all the time. So am I, but they are usually .2 to .5 second faster than me per lap. I am owrking on the handling issue by adding more camber on both sides and also chopping 1 to 1 1/2 coils off each spring. Also I am adding strut tower braces to the front and back and putting a rear loop set of bars going to the very rear of the chassis for more stiffness. I am also going to experiment with going from 15 inch tires and wheels to 14 inch. the 15 inch tire size is 205/50-15 and 14's are 195/60-14.

If you have any suggestions of how to overcome my gear problems, feel free to send them. If there is a 5 speed tranny that i can swap or any gearing swaps to make me faster would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance, Dave S.

Welcome to the site! There are actually at least 1 or 2 other people on here that I know race circle tracks, and I am pretty sure 1 of them is a Beretta.

As far as gearing an such, there are ways to change out the gearing in the 4T60E to give you probably what you are looking for. Do some searches in the tranny section of the site and I'm sure you will find several articles that will help you get moving in the right (or left ) direction.
