  • Hello

Hello inquiring female here that has two Grand Prix SE. One is a 1990 that I got when it was 3 and now has over 300,000 miles on it and just started replacing the original parts about two years ago. The other is a 1995 GP. Thanks to whoever has this site for leading me here.

I was looking for a decent picture of my engine and they have great pictures, as I'm trying to find a part for it and was told the name of the part is a Throttle Control Module, but the inquiries from the used junk yards don't seem to know what I'm talking about.

Welcome to the site!! That link is hilarious that its still up and running, as that guy hasn't owned a 60V6 in probably 4+ yrs!

I'm not sure what a throttle control module is either?? Can you point out what you are looking for in one of the pictures and we can go from there.

Thanks for your reply. Well I'm grateful he still has it up as it was just the pictures I was looking for to see this part. Here is a picture. The part is in a red square. Thanks if you can tell me the correct name of it.

That appears to be the EGR. Here is another picture for your comparison (bottom right):

I better get back with them and let them show me again, because they said they cleaned it out, which made it work for a little while. It does and doesn't. I don't see how they could clean that out. Will that EGR cause a car to start sputtering and the check engine light to flash and then the car will die? It will start back up but it coughs and gags to get going again. Sometimes it goes fine then again you never know when you will be stranded under a red light.

You can take off the EGR and clean out the passage into the intake manifold, as well as clean the valves at the bottom of the EGR. It can definitely cause the check engine light to come on. If the check engine light is on, take it to an auto parts store and have them read the codes. Come back with what the codes are and we can help diagnose it further from there.

Wow you're smart. Want to come to Florida? LOL Well I went to start it the other day and it went clang clang so don't know what the heck it is now. Think it's time for me to scrap it out. I'll have to wait for my mechanics to come see what the heck is going on now.

I'm going to show them that picture above you posted.

Where in Florida are you? There are actually several members on the site that are from Florida and may be able to help you out. ForcedFirebird is one that comes to mind...

I'm in North Fla.........now the exhaust has blown loose from the manifold and it's supposed to be hard to fix so I'm going to just get what I can for it. Original stuff starting to go and too costly to fix. I've had the car for 17 years guess it's time to say good bye

If the exhaust blew loose from the manifold, about the only thing that will cause that, and cause the issues you were talking about, would be a clogged catalytic converter. A temp fix would be to cut it out and bolt in a "test pipe". Basically just get a piece of exhaust pipe and a couple exhaust clamps from the auto parts store and install in place of the cat.

Nobody has even thought of that. So instead of it being my EGR as you call it then it could be the converter which also btw is the original? I know about running a straight pipe as I did that to my 1975 Firebird. Totally illegal..........but oh well.

Sure its illegal. I never said to keep it in. But it would at least let you know if that is your problem. If it fixes the issue, then later down the road you can install a new cat to be legal again.

I don't care if it's legal or not since I still have a straight pipe on the Firebird. LOL I wish they would quit putting stuff on vehicles to annoy us frankly.
