    • Those bottom end bearings sure do look good. What sort of oil are you using?

              • Ok I just noticed, this is the SECOND set of cam bearings that I had do this to me... I used stock ones on the Milzy cam and they just got shiny and showed some copper after a while, but the same Sealed power set that I put in my 3400 that went in my first car had the same pitting and stuff... and that was a STOCK setup...

Pic from when I took that apart...

I guess I'm staying FAR away from Sealed Power Cam Bearings and Cloyes timing sets as far as aftermarket stuff goes... They are all crap even in a stock application. Their rod bearings held up fine though. Mains had to be replaced after 60k...

                      • This is what worry's me... Now I understand you can install bearings wrong, but this wouldn't happen... they would get worn in odd spots, and stuff like that OR spin... I can't see any good reason for this to have happened. Poor oiling would have caused issue elsewhere too... But look at my current engine, the rest of my bearings that are stock are beautiful... so I'm at a loss of what is up with sealed power cam bearings.

I'm pissed because I replaced them with the same thing when I rebuilt this... not knowing that could happen again.

Cam is fine, its much harder than the bearing and that's the point... that wears and the cam doesn't.

And the second pic is the 3400 that's in red... the one you followed home from NY with a blown headgasket... That was when I rebuilt it to replace the hybrid and be my daily again.

When I found my current pinky bearings to look like this, I knew I'd seen that somewhere before... I actually thought it was when I had my Milzy cam in this engine, but it turns out I saw this on my stock setup that used the same brand bearings.

                        • haha yeah i remember the sweet and wet trip back from NY.

i want to at least look at the cam bearings on mine. if the rest of your bearings look that good and you put a lot more miles on your car than i did with a cam in there so at this point im not going to worry about it right now.

the sealed power should last longer than that regardless whether there is a hotter than stock cam in there. at least your finding this crap before it causes problems.

                          • Yeah I know... Chain I was a little late on, but in the end that didn't cause any issues really... just dimples in my pistons...

                            • eh i got some dimples in my pistons too. didnt hurt the valves and im pretty sure that was when i had the 3400 heads on there since i havent had the 3500 heads off since i put them on.

wonder how my chain looks. its the 99 set but i didnt cryo treat it. would there be any advantage of cryo treating my lifters.
