  • Yes that was done back in post #364 in 2013... I tried the Double roller first apparently, and it was a second run of the sprockets and TCE forgot to machine the oil grooves on the back of the pulley which resulted in my chain stretching out unbelievably on my trip to Colorado and back, I was the only one of like 15 that had installed the setup yet so people thought I was nuts. After that whole thing I had gone back to a stock 96 setup. I got the revised DRTC gears sometime last year and just never put them back in... I'm trying them again on this motor... Hopefully things work as they were intended to.

I'm getting close to being pressed for time... I need the car 100% drivable and a few thousand miles road tested before June 23rd. Engine bay is still completely empty... Trans isn't even 100% complete, still ironing out some issues with that since FedEx lost the modified output shaft I had for it. Just got a replacement shaft yesterday and it's in my machine shop this week to get tweaked.

    • I will be taking the original 3500 tray and cutting all the mounts off it tonight to see if I'm able to drop the tray .25" closer to the mains and then re-weld the mounts. I see this as the only way to fix it without doing something else crazy.

I will post pics of what I end up doing just so everyone knows.

      • Well that sucks. I don't know how it went this long without being mentioned or why i never put a pan on but that won't work. I don't know if modifying the windage tray is the best route, or if welding a windage tray into the pan itself would be a better answer. Certainly have to look into this more as I need to do this for a couple engines in progress here. If you make the windage tray work, I would love to see what was done. Im not sure how many trays I have left, if any, to test it on.

        • Position the mounts.

          Position the tray.

          Welded up.

I measured a 1/4" difference from a stock tray so hopefully after reaming the holes for the ARP studs it works out.

            • Trying some new things....

Had to re-do the valves since this was only a test and I had not surface prepped them enough. I did a torch test and it held up to direct torch flame very well until I hit a tiny spot that had something under it which caused it to bubble. SO I will be cleaning them up really good tonight and then re-spraying them.

              • What is time serted? I've never heard of that. I have a set of like new Comp gold 1.6 roller rockers I'd like to find a way to use on my 3400. I had them on my LG5 and I don't want them to go to waste.

time-serts are like heli-coils on steroids.

popular in the northstar crowd due to their blocks having the headbolt threads disintegrate in earlier engines.

                    • Yes time serts are a threaded insert that is used to replace weak aluminum threads I did it because it's very common for these threads to pull out and I've had the heads together and apart so much I was concerned with them lasting since I was also increasing the spring pressure. The chamber coating helps keep heat out of the aluminum head as well as reduces hot spots. It's a ceramic coating. My pistons are also top coated but with a different material since I had those done somewhere.

I'm not currently running a windage tray, it's something that is bothering be quite a bit. I plan to fab one up soon to correct that.

                          • That was my other option and I was not fond of it at all... I would rather run the stock hardware than no windage tray so I decided I would make one work.

Finally got the heads assembled though and one on the block to measure for push rod length and figures... Stock length gets me .073 preload and Ben said that is ideal so he ordered them. I'm still going with aftermarket push rods because of the increased wall thickness of the rod itself. So hopefully the last of the parts will be here soon!

                              • Windage tray on and the timing cover is on since that photo... Will be dropping the pan on and doing the lower intake soon. Waiting for pushrods to arrive before closing it up for good.
