did you change the pistons??? what head gaskets did you use??? if you use the aluminum head pistons itll end up 12:1+ compression.

Actually it's the opposite. Using iron heads w/ gen 2 (al head) pistons yields a very low compression ratio, like near 7:1?. Using iron head pistons w/ aluminum heads yields near 12:1. Unless there's a secret, I don't know how well that motor will run. Nice score for $800 though.

Grab a 3400 and put that in with some tuning instead. I know you probably want to drive it but that would be a much better engine power-wise.

Now for the rest of the story!!

I built that 2.8 for the Cavalier about 4 years ago. I didn't know thenwhat I know now, I had put flat top pistons in that motor (with a .030 bore it makes 12.6:1). It ran alright but I was concerned with valve/piston contact issues, so I never drove the car. So for the last 4 years I would crank the car every month or so, to keep all the parts oiled. I saw this Fiero for sale and checked it out, it had a spun rod berring and I figured that the 2.8 that I had could go into that car (and it did). That is why I didn't go with a 3.4/3800/4.9, I didn't want a drag car (I already have one of those, 94 Z28 13.27@104). I just needed something to drive back and forth to my part time job and quit beating up the Z.

Ah I see. Nice car though, I'd be too tempted to get a beater to drive everyday, and make the Fiero go fast. They sure do look cool (GT's) for being an 80's car. I've always kicked myself for not getting a black 86 GT 5spd I saw for sale years ago.

sorry man didn't mean to intrude

I have a 76 cobra mustang completely redone it. it has a emissions motor in it right now to pass emissions considering I only have to pass once, its white with blue stripes and yes its a real cobra. bad emissions year but the 5.0 centrifugal w/ carb hat is quite fast, but thats not what I'm really racing. I recently just purchased a 427 aluminum block from nascar, you can check them out. I had found it on eBay one day and thought I would want to learn more, sure enough I put a down payment and found a second job and working out some tactics here. my stang is pretty quick and I've beaten out an ls1 before, and by your body style you have an lt1. love the car, have a friend with a trans am with lt1 added cam, headers, coil, wires and exhaust. really don't like him cause he's cocky and thinks he can take on everybody. Me I'm just trying to do the impossible and redo the engine bay in my stang so that this monster 427 can fit, and trans, and rear end. what I want to do is my 10 year plan right now. finish up my car, take to emissions, then tear it all apart again and set the 427 in. maybe after put twin turbos in, but who am I kidding I don't have the money for twin turbos yet just taking one step at a time

that sounds pretty sweet man. I don't have a very fast Z, it is stock internals with Pacesetter LT's & ORY, Hooker catback, 2700 stall, B&M shiftkit, 3:42 gear, SLP CAI, MSD 8381, full billet alum LCAs &PHB w/QA1 hime joints no bushings. it has done 13.27@104 on Nitto 555 street tire.

I wont say that I haven't lined up with the wrong 'stang, but I haven't ben beeten by one at the track yet. I know there are fast ones out there, but alot of them seem to underestimate my crappy looking car (it has primer all over it now). Id love to see your car in action man!!

too much $$ for the little HP gains. I could put that same $$ in different cam and springs and Edelbrock intake and net much more power!
