  • Coil on the right fender??

Hey, i was wondering how hard it is to switch the coil location to the right fender, i saw it on one of the pictures in the gallery, i am new to this site, and i'd like to do it, where do i go w/the coolant resvoir tank,w/e its called, and where do i purchase MSD wires and coils....second, where can i get a chrome, or just polished or w/e valve cover, mine is peeling, and is quite ugly, appreciate the input...!!

as fer the valve covers . . . your best bet would be to send them out to some shop that can clean and recoat or chrome 'em.

hey yeah i'd appreciate the help, it looks nice and im sure my coil packs need replaced, i've never touched them and it runs like it needs them, the plugs are good but i wouldn't mind doing the wires

pretty much you just lenghten the wires connecting to the coil packs. i dont know exactly where to get the MSD wires, but i would recomend magnacor wires instead... thats what the big boys are runing with these engines. as for the coil pack. summit jegs carry the MSD coils and also some other brands too.

as for the valve covers... just use some paint striper on the valve cover... yep thats right the DOHC have painted valve covers... once the paint is gone, you can get some polish and polish them right up.

              Wires

You can make longer ones, lol

But you need bulk wire. I made my wires cause I have bulk rolls of MSD 8.5 wire and I run custom wires on all the rods, show cars or vehicles that I've installed a custom ignition system. (like I did on my Grand Prix you saw)

To be honest, as long as you have any larger size, good quality wire. Its not going to be a lot of difference. Magnacor, MSD, Taylor, Moroso, etc.

They are ALL good wires with some differences between them, that I do know from experience over all the years of installing them at our shop. If you want a certain color and like a smooth, shinny feel the get the Taylor wires.

For difference in resistance, there isn't a big difference in all the Top end wires from one to the next, no matter what ones may say, its a matter of price, preferance, etc. If ones don't believe that the I got in my shop these different types of wire and I can just send them a sample to test with an ohm meter. There isn't a big difference in the all the Spiral core, low resistance wires.

There is some difference in the level of Electro Magnetic Interference though from one to the next.

              Dave

                      Hey,

I put the coolant tank underneath the right, front fender. The coolant tank I used came from a Ford Aerostar van. The washer fluid tank and the coolant overflow tank are two seperate tanks but joined together. I carefully sawed them apart and put a bigger hose into the fill hole and ran it up to the rad and also put a vent into the top of the tank as well and bolted it in.

You have to move some stuff around to get the coils where I put them.

                      - The alternator cooling fan housing must be moved toward the fender and re-mounted.

                      - The computer and wireing must be moved and also remounted.

                      - As for the stupid small relay box, where I now have the ECM, I installed regular relays with a small mounting bracket on them and mounted them on the rad support on the front side behind the right headlight. You can mount them where ever you wish though.

                      - I also shortened some of then wires going to the ignition module, and made a bracket for them to mount to. MAKE SURE ITS A GOOD, SOLID MOUNT.

NOTE: As for the wires IF someone wants three of those "Hemi" style MSD hard boots for the front wires, IF there making cutom wires. LET ME KNOW. The boots must be purchased from MSD in large bulk, so I do have lots I can sell if you want to make you own wires.
There not hard to make, it just take a long time. on this engine BUT IMO looks awsome, I've ALWAYS had people comment on my custom wires on that engine. ITs FUN (IMO) to make them IF you buy the PRO crimping tool. OR DON'T bother trying to make them you'll get pissed try to use the
"#&%$ " tool they give you or the cheap one you can buy.

                      Have any more questions??????? ASK

Oh ya, I had the front and rear STB made. I can see about geting others made when I get time. I work usually 7 days a week.

                      Regards,
