  • 94-95 heads on 96-97 longblock

    Question:

What would happen if I put heads, intake, and exhaust from the 94-95 LQ1 on a 96-97 longblock? Will the compression ratio go up, down?

I'm thinking about it because I have a lower mileage 96-97 block and I might be ready to swap engines and to swap in OBD2 before I have the intake and exhaust work complete to run the newer style heads and intake.

Another question: If I rebuild my 95 long block with 96-97 style pistons while it's out, would I face any issues putting the 97 heads, intakes, and exhaust on it later?

    Thanks.

Its all interchangable. Not sure on compression differences as its the heads that raise compression. The 96 pistons have more valve relief but a dome in the center as well.

humm learnd something new! just to throw an idea out there.... do you guys think it would be possible to revers the heads? IE have the rear head on the front and the front on the back... this way you can combine the exhaust where the lower intake would have been and very easily mount twin turbo's!!!

you could just hack up a lower intake and make indiviual inake manifolds for the front and rear retaining the factory pieces for the fuel injectors. yes a new custom fuel rail would be needed and some way to merge and then split the intake charge for the MAF sensor and MAP.

      also in another idea,
i know from the looks of it, you could rotate the lower intake manifold 180* and i think the fuel rail could be rotated again so no fuel modifications would be needed in that situation.

just throwing some crazy ideas out there maybe it will spark someone to do something truely wild with the engine.
