does anyone know what the absolute MOST this engine can push out if say u had $20k say to throw into the 3.4 DOHC and had twin turbos what could i expect?

or whould i be more concieveable just to throw say a chevy 350 in it?

If you have 20K.........convert to the 350 and enjoy a plethera of aftermarket goodies....the sky is the limit

20k!? i admit i have an unhealthy obsession with the lq1 but if i had 20k to kick around on just drivetrain, i would be rocking a s/c big block in something.

well i was thinking that since the Lumina was used for nascar for so long it wouldnt be that hard to say convert a z34 to RWD and put a chevy 350 in it but i do love the LQ1 engine simply cause it's the original engine an i would like to know what the absolute max output power would be ive heard of a fiero with an LQ1 in it running 13.5 psi boost puts out like 387 whp an 375 or so torque but i think that it can do better if anyone has any idea lemme know

Shit son, if you got 20K to drop on an LQ1....

I wouldn't suppose twin turbo's would be feasible as far as room and whatnot. But damn, bore it a bit, get some low ass compression pistons, port/polish the shit out of the heads, o/s stainless valves, higher rated springs, walbro fuel pump, ported/polished intakes/TB, nice turbo setup, all kinds of good stuff for 20G's

better bottom end for one. custom pistons, retrofit 350 rods and i do not know what you'd do about a better crank. the heads already flow damn good so it shouldn't take too awful much to get them up to par especially for boost. custom cams, dry sump oiling system, better valvesprings. the list goes on for one off exotic parts you'll need.

if you really plan on dropping in that kind of money, you will have to convert the LQ1 to RWD, the trans and axles won't be able to take the power coming from the engine, and the FWD won't be able to put any of that power anyway. If you went crazy and converted to rwd and beefed everything up, i don't see why you couldn't have a fun lil 6-800hp street sweeper. The only thing that could fail at this point would be the block, and I don't think anyone has made those kind of numbers in an LQ1 to see what would happen. But, after this, its still a Lumina, I'd rather do like I'm doing, and build a car to be lighter and handle well.

check out my build thread, you might get some ideas

It has absolutely nothing in common with Lumina that was available to the public. Just a Lumina Body.

Saying it even has a lumina body is being pretty liberal with the name.

                          Not at all.

Lots of people are dreamers, though, and I have no problem helping another person figure out how to spend said person's money.

That said, I'll add my 2 cents.

With $20k to spend on an LQ1...

Bore it out as much as possible and sleeve it. Blueprint and true everything. Use 4-bolt mains and the 3500's forged crank. Get some machine work done to improve oiling inside the block where possible. Use a dry sump system. Get custom rods and pistons made, with the pistons at 8:1 compression. Get some headwork done by a professional shop that specializes in dohc engines and/or imports... let 'em have at the heads to improve combustion chamber design where they can, too, and get their input on piston design. Get custom ground cams suited for a turbo car with peak power around 7500 rpm. Have one of the companies that produces individual throttle body set-ups design and produce one for your car. Get some custom headers made. Buy one or more variable vane geometry turbochargers to produce as much boost as you want, starting off idle, with no restriction or drop in boost from idle to the moon. Get an air/water intercooler designed to have no pressure drop on a car pushing 750+ hp.

If, on the off chance you have any money left after all of this, have some custom cam carriers machined that will allow you to have as much lift as you want.

I don't know when the block will give out, but with big enough variable vane geometry turbochargers, you'll be able to figure that out for yourself.

                              For $20k

Bore it out slightly, fill with 8.5:1 forged pistons and Pauter rods. Consider a stroker crank (if any are available)
                              Built transmission.
Head porting with oversized valves and stiffer springs.
Custom intake and exhaust manifolds (tubular, equal length with nice merge collectors into a twin scroll housing) 4" to dual 3" exhaust system
GT4088R turbo with Tial 44mm WG and Tial 50mm BOV
FAST or AEM plug and play systems designed for other GM's adapted to control the LQ1.
                              Revamped fuel system and WBO2.
16x9" front wheels with drag radials

What I just listed would easily take $20k. It should give you a solid 500 whp on pump gas and up to 700 on race gas.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Wiggins clamps (intake) or V bands (exhaust) on everything.
