Here's the deal. I have a 95 Grand Prix as you all have probably guessed. And of course it is an automatic. 40 miles from my house there is a 92 Richard Petty Edition 3.4 5 speed with 108k in all but perfect condition and the owner is asking $6k. Now should I A: Stick with the 95 or B: Go for the Petty Edition even though I don't really have the money but it would be worth taking out a loan for anyways.

Only if you are a die hard petty fan....and it has 3k in cash in the trunk. 6k for a 92 grand prix 3.4 DOHC 5 speed is extreme. Convertibles are worth that for a 94 or so in really good shape but I just don't see whats so special about that car other than the 5 speed. Even that doesn't make it worth near what they want. For that kind of money you could make your 95 a hell of a lot nicer, be it engine, stereo, 32" rims, RWD conversion, etc.Ben

ditto, a rp gp is nice and all but 6k???? i have seen 5 spd lumi's go for 1k and 5 spd gp gtp's go for $750. if u want a 5 spd, just be patient. a deal will come along i am sure be it local or online.
hell i just missed a 3.4 dohc fierogt 5 spd go for $2500(i so wanted that car).
anywho, 6k is a sizeable down payment on a cheaper new car(think ss cobalt s/c) or a nice payment or purchase of a used car(think c4).
lastly, u can re-invest in the gp and have a turbo car with about 2k to blow on whatever your heart desires. or blow it all and have a turbo 5 spd . of all the wbodies i must say the gp(thinking 94-96 here) is my favorite good choice there.

6k is a lot for a 14 year old car especally since you say its not in good condition. a manual would be nice, but damn man for 6g's you should go with a honda. seriously. look for a 93-95 w/ a b16 series motor. youll find a good one for that price, and itll haul ass, on top of being cheaper to modify. laugh if you may but if you do youve obviously never ridden in one before.

well im sorry you feel that way about hondas, and i somewhat agree that there are some crappy ones out there, but there are some sick hondas out there too.im not one to hate any car, i believe everything has the potential to be fast, or i wouldnt be dumping the cash i am into my grand am, and honestly after a lot of research if you are on a budget and want to haul ass a honda is the way to go.

1. cat was clogged, gutted it and costed 0$. 2. chip was bad, had darthfiero make another one for $40 and made a few modifications which even if the stock chip was good, i would have changed it anyway.
if your local market sux try going out of state, it costed me $600 to have that gtp professionally transported from KS to VA. so i guess you can say i paid $1350 for the gp. only real advice though is stay away from the north when buying.Last edited by dohcfiend; 06-03-2006, 01:37 PM.The Official Rotating Mass Nazi

after about 90 he is passed and i have a basically stock engine. but his modded and mine stock it would be a REAL close 1/4 he probably can beat me if he gets a better launch.
after i install my rebuilt and modded engine i will own his ass unless he puts in a turbo. other than radically modding his engine (n/a speaking)that b16 is doing about all it can do.
if i absolutely for some stretch of the imagination HAD to go honda, i would probably use a better platform like a h22 or maybe some of the newer k series engines if i had the dough. and yes i know that a suped up h22 in a civic crx would be way faster than any wbody but it is just personal preference for me.
i am biased but i do like some imports....just not most 4 bangers. if i got a good deal on a 300zx tt, id rock one. mitsu 3000gt/dodge stealth, honda nsx, yamaha taurus SHO or even the less known subaru svx. actually id probably go with the svx just b/c it would be a challenge like the lq1 and the rewards would be even sweeter. i don't know the svx motor may have an aftermarket...i am not sure. but if it didn't yeah.
but i'd have to have alot of $$$ and free time. after all i am an american and i see no reason to sport asian pride.Last edited by dohcfiend; 06-03-2006, 02:14 PM.The Official Rotating Mass Nazi

Yeah around these parts these cars are not cheap and there were only 1000 Petty GP's made in 92'. And only 100 were red. Even better yet only 75 of the 1000 total had 5 speeds so there are a very small number of red 5 speeds left. 6k is a little steep but I know what a 3.4 5 speed will do and the fact that if I bought the car I wouldn't have to dick around swapping a 5 speed or re wiring anything. It was just a thought but chances are the car is sold by now.
And by the way no offense to anyone but I will never own a torqueless Honda ever. All they are good for is horsepower. The only reason they are fast is because they are made of plastic and other cheap stuff and weigh like 2200 pounds. I just prefer rumble over buzzing sounds. Repeat no offense I am 6'3" and weigh 275 pounds. Small imported cars and I just don't mix well. The only thing better than GM is a GM with a 60V6 under the hood.

Back to the original topic. The Petty car may be worth 6k. There were only 75 made with the 5 speed. There should be a signed letter from Richard included. Check on that.If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.
