  • Fisting the 97 DOHC

I was just working on making my 97 motor ready for a turbo and the swap into my 95. As part of that, I'm removing the EGR (though I will leave the plug and mount there just in case) and lots of other vacuum based emissions equipment. When I pulled off the intake arm, I noticed that the inlet into the intake manifold seems pretty large. I tried fisting it and sure enough, my arm slid right in almost up to my elbow! The upper intake seems like it should perform VERY well. The arm from the TB to the intake seems a bit scrawny though.

I also just ordered a McMaster shift kit for the transmission and some check valves so that I can still vent my block into the intake rather than running a breather. The valves crack open at 0.3 psi, work to 400 degrees F, and can hold something like 800 psi! The should keep the crank under vacuum at all conditions other than boost, and when I boost they should prevent it from becoming pressurized. Lots of work left though. I'll be writing up what wiring needs to be swapped this weekend. Once I do the swap, I'll post it.

Car porn threads are worthless without pics.
