    So, this is my idle vacuum. It hovers around 15 inches of mercury, but it twitches really badly, up and down 4 PSI very rapidly. After revving it, the vacuum shoots up real high(normal maybe) and then as the engine bogs and tries to die, it drops to almost zero vacuum. That's a link to the vid I made of it... LMK what you guys think. Thanks!

      Is this supposed to be in maintenance or something? Is that loud clacking your injectors, or one of your lifters?

      btw, engine shouldn't bog and die, or go to 0 vacuum

        Just realized I posted this in performance instead of maintenance. Sry guys.


        It's several lifters, can't tell if they're about to take a shit on me or not, but they probably are.

        And I didn't know what normal vacuum was, but I didn't think it was supposed to bounce around a bunch. And yeah, I need to figure out why it bogs and dies.

          To me, it sounds like one or more of your lifters collapsed... so basically you're running on fewer than 6 cylinders.

          You might want to try using one of those "oil flush" bottles. Maybe you've got some crud holding the check ball open on those lifters.
          Okay now, that's enough of that.

            Wavering vacuum can mean a bunch of things;

            -Valve sealing problems
            -Cam phasing problems
            -timing problems (missing)
            -carbon/preignition problems.
            -Exhaust plugging issues.
            -Ring sealing problems.

            I'd check all the normal tune-up junk before panicking.

            there's a ratsnest of vacuum hoses. Go over them, first, although your average vacuum is about right...

              Okay... Just wanted to check, I had someone telling me idle vacuum should be almost 30 on this motor. I'll see what's going on. How do I check for collapsed lifters, BTW? I don't want to have to pull the cam carriers off if I don't have to again.


              The little button in the lifters was all the way out/open when they were out, and they were all stuck like that. Is that normal?
