  • Timing Gear Removal

Man, I've busted my brain for 3 days trying to figure out how to get this bastard of a gear OFF the crank... Not to mention how I'm going to get it back on without damaging the thrust surfaces on the brand-new bearings I just replaced...

I didn't even remove the gear; the timing chain didn't look so hot, so I broke it with a pair of bolt-cutters.

HOW THE HELL DO I GET THAT GEAR ON/OFF?

The manual isn't any help... Says to use a "special timing sprocket removal/installation tool or equivalent" without so much as mentioning how it works.

I can't get the claws of a normal gear puller behind it, there's no threads to use an HB puller... What the hell am I supposed to do?

You have to use the puller

    hey mach10,

Yes, you have to use a sprocket / bearing puller to remove it without damaging anything. Do you have a Princess Auto in Winnipeg there? They sell them the cheapest. If I had a picture I'd show you one sorry. Part source should have one for there "loan-a-tool".

    Regards,

Am I a bad person for taking a bench-grinder and modifying a pitman arm puller to fit over the crank snout so I can yank that ring off?

Or am I just a bad person when I return it for credit?
