  • 2 Quick Questions

    1: Is the cam sensor really needed? On the 94-95 LQ1? What does it do? This question is to see if I can use the earlier cam cover.

    2: Is the LS1 TPS compatible with the LQ1 PCM? (Is it Plug and Play?)

    1. i believe it is needed for the SFI system to function correctly.

    2. i am 90% sure it is. i know the N* is and i have seen 1 or 2 peeps using ls1 tb's on their lq1's. far be it for gm to use different sensors on different engines. not very practical.

      After the initial pulse to set up the coils, the CMP sensor signal is used by the PCM for only sequencing the fuel injection timing. Thus, the engine will still run if the CMP sensor signal is lost while the engine is running, but it won't start after it is shut down. Also, the PCM is unable to control the sequential injection while the engine is running without a 1x signal. Therefore, the ICM/PCM will revert to pulsing the injectors like a multi-port engine.

      Additionally, the PCM can't sense if the CMP or CKP sensor signals are reaching the ICM, but a code 41 will set if the CMP signal is not received by the PCM when the engine is running.

      CMP=CAM position sensor
      CKP=CRANK poisition sensor
